I can walk to mine, just have to be careful not to get carried away in one shop...
Although I did see a neighbour bringing his shopping home in their trolley! I'm not sure if that's actually allowed though!!Happy New Year :beer:0 -
I've never been in to the one in our locality but reading this thread, perhaps I should!
Does anybody know if they do a frozen white fish fillet (either 500g or 1Kg bags)? Not cod or coley or anything like that but 'white fish for the use of' stuff, I think it is usually pollock or similar.
I used to buy this from Sains or Tesco for an occasional treat for my cats but they have both put the price up dramatically just lately (Sains from £1.26 to £1.94 a 500g bag, Tesco from £1.94 to £2.49 for a 750g bag  - large and unjustifiable price hikes IMO)
(how the supermarkets can justify these huge and sudden price increases, and on so many diverse things, is beyond me.....)
I used to pop into the local fishmongers, who would do a bag of fresh fish scraps for fairly cheap for the cats2017 - no clutter to be seen challenge: 72/2017
Weight loss the old style way challenge - 7/14lbs :j0 -
i've got a farmfoods just round the corner - very handy for the vast quantities of milk my 2 year old consumes
a week or two they had boursin cheeses for 25p!!! normally they're a couple of pounds i think - yummy!0 -
just been there after reading the posts and could only find 9 loo rolls for £2 and the pot noodles are also 69p each now and not £2 for 4. Got some teabags 440 for £2.50 which seems good, havent tried them yet though.0

After reading this thread I thought I'd give them a try, so after a quick rummage in the paper recycling box for the leaflet with discount coupons that I'd discarded, off I went to have a mooch.
Unfortunately it looks like Sunday is not a good day to visit, lots of offers displayed but the shelves were bare. Had a good look round to see if there were enough offers to warrant another visit and I think, if they actually had the things, it probably would be.
I was suprised to see some things (John West microwavable rice pouches 75p for example) that I'd seen on the Approved Foods site (only looked on there because of MSE thread!) were cheaper than AF and I'd initially thought they seemed pretty good.
Did pick up some milk since we use loads but decided to wait til they re-stocked before doing a proper shop. Did notice the chicken breast mentioned by earlier posters and they were still £3.95 for the kilo bag - 6 fillets, (if that's the right ones?) at my local one. Might give them a try when I go back.
Thanks everyone.0 -
Yep thats the chick breast i buy0

The branded offers are fantastic but own brand a bit hit and miss. Brought some fries and could not use them as they were deep fry only (I don't know anyone who owns a deep fat fryer so could not give them away ) and the Apple Pie and UHT milk are rank. The fishcakes, 20 for a £1 last time I was in there are so much nicer than "branded" good value!!!2013 wins: Persil Bunny0

I have to agree they have changed a lot in the past few years, i used to love their double pack of own brand beef curry for £1 it was actually quite nice and more filling if you added more rice but i got it a few months ago as i moved quite near to a farmfoods so shopped there more, anyway the curry was rank, the beef was chewy and the sauce just tasted like curry powder in water yuk:lipsrseal
I used to love their own pasta in sauces especially the garlic and wine one they did, they beat batchelors hands down on price and taste but a friends recently said they have gone downhill and taste very synthetic
I also purchased their own brand spicy potato wedges as they were cheaper than my usual McCains spicy wedges, they were ok but had a slight taste of them that couldn't be described, i would buy them again if money was an option and the McCain ones weren't on offer but usually they are in Tesco.
Can't complain at their milk or veg(fresh) it is great for the price.
Again the chicken breasts i think these are great value and are fine to eat, i sometimes go to my Heron and buy their breasts but whenyou are cooking those there is a terrible smell form them that puts me off i don't get that with farmfoods and there is always a lot of good sized breasts in the bag that always defrost well and look nice.
Their frozen deserts well i usually buy branded from them as it is so cheap like Walls ice cream, cornetto cones or other well known makes, cheesecakes, or aunt besses apple pie etc.
They have a great selection of branded tins and packets and are good value but once again you have to check your local stores as a can of Heinz soup might be 59p or whatever from them but in Tesco etc it might be on bogof(i can dream on lol) or 3 for £1 but usually they are good value like the hotdogs i love them lol(i try not to think whats in them:o).
Their frozen joint of beef used to be the best and the cheapest but i got one last year after not having one for a while and it was ghastly, it was chewy with no flavour and smelt rancid, i complained to them and recieved a sincere apology and a letter explaining that they would not stand for this and were looking into the matter and batch of beef and also a £10 gift coupon for FF which was very handy, i was so pleased about the quick response and the way they dealt with it i was not pushed aside:cool:.
I think generally they are a good handy store to have around and do save a good bit on freezer stuff but like everything you have to try things and see what you like and what you don't:D:D0 -
I get the flyers through my door, but I haven't actually been into one yet: 750g of frozen broccoli for £1.00!?- you can get 1kg for £0.94 at all the major supermarkets...0

Have been disappointed last couple of times going. Used to do Findus Lasagne 1kg pack which was perfect for us at £2 -kids loved it but didn't have it last time and no space in the freezer for it so presume won't be stocking again. Still some saving on branded goods but not worth the drive for me I'm afraid.0
