Hi who do you bank with and did you send the letter to your Branch or the Head Office..

I did my letters today, I printed 2 identical copies and sent one recorded delivery to my branch (for £2,011 it's the best £0.96 I've ever spent with Royal Mail :D). The second I hand delivered to my branch, got a written and SIGNED receipt for and got them to stamp the letter as duplicate received so as not to cause problems with multiple claims etc. I think that should be enough :)

Heh thanks!! I must admit, for the first time EVER, it was the only occasion I've been both happy and eager to see charges on my account lol - a right turn around for the books!

And if this does go to court and I add the 8% interest calculated daily, it would seem that bank charges make the best savings accounts going!! Martin should add that to his savings fountain :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Hi
I sent a letter to Nationwide , and 2 to Abbey asking for breakdown of charges/statements (joint and single account).
Nationwide wrote back within about 2 days saying thanks for letter, we are dealing with your request.
I have yet to hear from Abbey. But not suprised as a lot of the info i have read on this subject so far says that Abbey are notoriously a pain in the butt for this sort of thing.

    Good luck everyone!
    What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
    Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave
  • Well, I have written my initial letter to Abbey so watch this space ......
(nothing ventured, nothing gained I guess). Can anyone tell me why I feel guilty about this ? Its mad. I am asking a commercial organisation to refund a percentage of money they may well have unlawfully taken from me & I am worried about upsetting them. My mum definately brought me up to be a little too polite and concerned for others when the feelings of a large inanimate company are playing on my mind.
Nonetheless the money would be very handy, so here goes.

Thanks for all the advice here

Well done both you guys! I hope Abbey cough up your data (and notes) soon.

bizzy_lizzie: Congrats on your letter! But if you feel guilty, don't for one nanosecond!!! Go to http://www.aboutabbey.com/home/group_info/group_info-key_facts.htm and do a search for "billion" and "million" on the page. Your guilt will quickly evaporate :rotfl:
  • You're right, no doubt.

I'm with you on this one SkintChick, I have always been VERY careful to make sure I never went overdrawn, never had any bounced DD's etc.

I'm really happy for the people who are getting money back but its kind of worrying that this could lead to people being a lot more lacksadasical (sp?) with their money in future because they know they can't get charged.

How long until we get companies with the slogan "Have you been charged by your bank in the last 6 years, well you may be due a refund of several thousand pounds, call today and we'll help you, no win, no fee!!! :rotfl:

BTW, does the refund of charges still apply on accounts that you have closed already, and what about if you complained about the charge at the time and they refunded half as a good will gesture, can you still claim the rest back?
