The thing is, I'm getting 99.9% uptime.
    If I wasn't, I wouldn't be with them.

By optimising my website, I don't need big bandwidth. My whole website network runs on free hosting, it just means less outgoing, and more money for me.

I think you need to accept that different people have different needs. You provided a link to http://www.000webhost.com/ - their free hosting would be of no use to me, it doesn't support my requirements (which are not speciliased). No CGI, No Perl, no stats etc etc these are all basics. Only two databases and only five email addresses (with no SMTP)? Pah!

Rather than 'feeling sorry for people who pay for hosting' maybe you should appreciate that if it suits you, you have very basic requirements.

Hmm... I might try the free http://www.000webhost.com/ hosting for an online biz that is being 'gently retired' but still needs to be hosted for the next 2 years, So this thread has been worth following. It also looks a good bet for my 'practice run' at migrating from old to new host.

[ but have hit an immediate issue: I want to migrate the old site & the DB, then test the new one at 000webhost, then when happy, point my main domain DNS etc to my 000webhost location. NO CAN DO! As I cannot use ftp etc until I have redirected the DNS... a catch 22? ]

    Saves paying for it!
Very few people need CGI, not so many need Perl, and the 5 email addresses you can check thru POP3, or have them forwarded. All what you need.

Still, if you're happy paying for it, and it makes you feel a superior webmaster, then by all means carry on.

Yes, I will carry on paying, because the free service you are praising is not sufficient for my (not overly complicated) needs. What is so difficult about that to understand?

Do you think that every single person on the planet has the same webhosting needs as you?

I think you need to read the thread again, you are looking pretty silly.

And there's me thinking all the OP wanted was an Online shop.

I think posts #6 and #7 sum up why other options are being discussed. You are very defensive of this comapny and dismissive of other peoples views, I'm guessing a vested interest.

I doubt it. The hosting company's all in dollars, and the domain website still has sections in German.
