£1900 down the drain!!!

Hi, We went on a holiday for 40 days and when v returned there was a tap in my garden(patio) which was running. We remember putting off all water pipes and switching off all appliances before leaving. We had actually left the heating on minimum temperature so it woudlnt freeze. We had our friend come and stay in our house for a few days in the middle of our holiday so it wasn't unoccupied for 40 days. What we didnt accept was that our water bill (for 6months)would be almost £2000. our bill is usually £200. We are shocked. It's too high. Now we even started wondering who came into our patio and left the tap open. we have called our insurance company about this who said we'll call back. Will they cover for this? atleast some part of this payment!!!Is there anything we can do to get some money off the insurer? That wasn't our fault that someone came in to our property(?) and left the tap running? Please suggest. Gosh, that's our £2000 which has literally gone down the drain!!!!

Was the tap faulty???
Some water companies do a Leakage allowence if you have had a leak at your property.
Thay may say its down to internal fixtures and fittings in which case you may be out of luck.
You might want to call your water supplier and ask.Helping people lower there water usage and water bills

no, tap was not faulty. it was just left open by someone when we were out of town. we came back and turned it off and its fine now.0 -
Nothing most water companies will deal with then as it was not a leak fault.Don't know about insurance as mine would not cover that.
How about talking to the house sitters ?There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

the house sitter was one of our friends and he never out to the backyard. he came in late night after work to sleep for a couple of nights- so he didnt really do/see anything other than the room he was in.
But not to forget that it was the same time when one of the worst snows hit Briton (feb09). so i dunno if it had anything to do with the water escape???!!??
anyways still waiting for insurance company to call back.0
