grrrr virgin.... anything i can do?

Options
I have been with virgin on their xl tv, broadband and phone package for six months at 30pm. I am moving to a non cabled area and so only qualify for their 'national' packages- broadband basically. When i completed a moving form, some guy just turned up at the door asking for my box back (three weeks before i move) and they sent me a bill for 120 for the remainder of the contract! Its not my fault that i am moving to an area they do not supply, is there any way I can fight this? I have already made a complaint about them attempting to disconnect me early and still charge me.

While we're on the topic, anyone any suggestions for the best deal for a non cabled area? Im heartbroken to lose my on demand!!!

I was your in position a couple of years ago, moved to a non-cable area abd was shocked not only by Sky / BT prices but also the apparent monopoly. A freeview box, gd mobile package and dongle may be the answer.

OFFCOM are completely unable to do anthying about this btw!

I cannot believe that as a consumer you are expected to pay because they are unable to supply in a certain area, its a crazy world!

And at the original address. Surely you don't expect them to cable up an uncabled street just to keep your connection?

Also, it is your choice to move to that particular property, nobody is forcing you to move there, had you moved to a house with full cable service there would be no problem, your choice, so why should Virgin allow you to break the terms of your contract?

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

As far as best deal in a non cable area its going to vastly depend on what ISPs have installed LLU equipment in your exchange. A quick visit to the sam knows broadband site should reveal your options.

    We currently have:

Sky entertainment pack with sky+ and multiroom - £31.25
    BT anytime plan - £16.24
    O2 Broadband - £7.34 (includes £5 discount for being o2 mobile customer)

    TOTAL - £54.83

This is actually approximately £10-£15 a month cheaper than what we were paying virgin media for an equivalent package (though our broadband is a tad slower than it was on virgin - least until we use it and virgin's STM kicks in)

aha! all you cynics... after complaining to virgin that i was being penalised fr moving house- (yes its not their fault im moving before 12 months, but is it m fault my landlord has sold his house? shall we all just pass the buck?!) they have agreed to let me continue my contract with just broadband on their national package.

    therefore- bt, 11.25
    virgin 12
    sky plus 16.50

all is right with the world once again. it pays to challenge the small print!
