We rang to haggle down the cost of upgrading to sky HD. As we have been with sky for 9 years and have movies, sports and all other channels they offered us 40% discount and free installation of HD box. Payments were stated as approx £37 for 6 months and then reverting to £47 from then on. We have been paying £55 ish. Went ahead and ordered HD but they are now denying all knowledge only giving 20% which they state is maximum and a £30 installation as we already have multi room. They have checked notes of our conversation but still will not budge. Would just be interested in anyone who has been offered a loyalty discount of 40% or similar experiences.

They tried a similar thing with me so i told them i wanted to cancel. Got put though to the correct department and when asked why i wanted to cancel i told them why.
In the end i got the original offer i was offered0 -
You are lucky, I tried the 'I'm thinking of leaving SKY' call to try and get them to offer me some sort of discount, and they said to me ' Well, sorry your going, goodbye then' , no offer of a reduction, free sport/movies, nothing..and I've been a Sky customer since 19880

If you leave I'm sure they'll be begging you to come back in a few weeks from now.
What sort of package were you on? Do you have phone/broadband with them? I was on a fairly basic package about a year ago when my box broke. They wanted to charge to repair it, and I fairly innocently said it wasn't worth it and I wanted to cancel. They were happy to come and replace it for free, or I could have a cheap Sky+ upgrade.Mortgage overpayments since November 08: £32,500 - balance is now £81,200
On a Lifetime tracker +0.38% repayment mortgage
Hope to be Mortgage free by 2015! (or maybe 2014 if the rates stay low.....)0 -

Same here and they wouldn't budge...it was 'goodbye then'. :eek:0 -
I rang Sky about a month ago and asked how to go about cancelling my sub. I was told just phone and give 30 days notice. They asked why I was thinking about leaving and I said I was loosing channels to which they replied they could send an engineer out for £65. I'm working 7 days a week and finding it difficult to get by without this added expense. They did not offer me any deals to keep me. I said I would think about it.
A month later I rang Cancellations, asked why I was leaving and gave the same answer. I was transferred to Retentions. Having been with them for years and gained loyalty points I was offered either a free visit from an engineer or free line rental for a year, £5 call anytime, £17 broadband (not LLU'd here) and basic package TV. Now that's more like it.
I live in an area where the phone line is often faulty and the 'powers that be' are unable to fix the non-fault hiss crackle bang that can be so loud that you are unable to use the phone or the internet. The fault gets cleared eventually without an engineers visit to the house. Inconvenient yes but I've saved a fortune in not allowing an engineer into the house.
So if you ring cancellations, if they don't offer you a good deal, say you'll think about it and ring back another time. Chances are you'll get a different person who does transfer you to retentions who have the ability to offer a deal.
Good Luck0 -

Hi.. By just saying "I'm Thinking of Leaving", I've found doesn't normally work.
You have to say a bit of a social story first, as the operator only has so many deals to offer to customers who say they are leaving.
The best way I've found is to say something like this:
"My relative has just Recommended me to Virgin Media, They have just called me and they are trying to get me to leave Sky and join them".
They have offered me a £££ better deal (make sure you tell them a figure at least £10 pm less than you normally pay), I don't really want the hassle of moving, but If Sky want to keep me, you've got to offer me a better deal than Virgin".
THE OPERATOR OFFERED ME 25% OFF FOR 6 MONTHS, And said If I called up again after this time I may get the same offer again or a better one, especially If Virgin have tried to get me to move again (which of course I'll tell them they have done).
Good Luck, try to sound confident but don't be fooled into really cancelling unless you really want to...:rotfl:0 -
i'm out of contact with them and only take up a subscription when they ring me which never used to be very often.last september i got a call and basically they put a credit on the account which meant i didn't have to pay a penny for about 2 months.i've been getting various discounts ever since then-i just ring up when i know the full price will be coming into effect0
