I don't want to do it though :(

We all do things we dont want to, its called life.

How were you planning on supporting yourself if you had to sign off for 13 weeks and then start again, as you said you would do in you first post?

Or are you working and thats why you cant take part in the new deal?

The advisors have exceptionally high targets to achieve, and so are very keen to get people placed, but there is exceptionally little choice even for nd, in regards to placements / training.

Long gone are the days of training and enterprise councils in the days of ma/yt/yts/tfw etc.. everything you wanted to learn / train was available. Now there is very little choice.

Ding Dong, if you do not want to lose money, you are best in trying to get the adviser to place you in something that interests you. Of course they are going to push what they have available, but if you can convince them you have an alternative off your own back, they may see what they can do.

Otherwise you will eventually be pushed into something.

With the greatest of respect, sending me to work in a charity shop will do nothing more than stop my ongoing job seeking activities , they will be handicapping me in a very competitive market!

Your "on going job seeking activities" are not working!

    Put it this way.

The government will pay you money when you don't work. They will pay you money each week to go and look for a job.

If after a certain amount of time not being able to get a job, you cannot do it on your own and they will step in to help.

Don't like it? either sign off or get a job.

Bozo, I am qualified in a very specialist field, there are hardly any jobs about, let alone in my field of expertise.

I dont want to do min wage work, thats not for me, and I am probably more literate than those who profess to train people to write a CV.

All I want to do is be left in peace to seek work and claim the dole.

I don't wish to become part of some bums on seats Nu Labour initiative, that serves no purpose other than levering people into jobs that do not exist under the premise that they do, in order to massage the unemployment figures.

"All I want to do is be left in peace to seek work and claim the dole."

It dosnt work like that just because you think that you are above those who work or the minimum wage, to be eligeble for Job Seekers Allowance you have to be activly seeking work, any work.

I never said I thought I was above anyone, you simply added that yourself. I said "Its not for me"

Also, your name is on the left of the screen, signing each post is about as useful as your spell checker.

Sorry to disappoint you, but whether or not you want to be part of "some bums on seats Nu Labour initiative", you are. You seem quite happy to take the benefits that the government offer you, without being willing to give anything in return. As you stated in your OP, you know New Deal is mandatory. So why are you asking how to get out of it? You will be quite happily left in peace to find work if you sign off! Otherwise, do what is being asked of you or suffer the sanctions that will be imposed.
  • Isn't there a time limit on how long someone claiming JSA can withhold from applying for jobs at national minimum wage? Because they have a specialist field?

First 3 months. But it does not work like that because the job seekers diary simply needs to indicate that you have made an effort and applied.
