I have a Sainsbury's account, along with various others. All of them require a nominated bank account to pay money in to. I presume this was changed too?

I just checked and you need to phone them up to do this. I presume they ask you a host of security questions. So either they knew all the answers or Sainsbury's were slack with the telephone security.

I'm wondering about the different security systems used to access online bank accounts.
Recently, over £20,000 was stolen from my sister's online Sainsburys Bank account, a large proportion of which was my money, loaned to her for safe keeping while I was abroad !
We believe that a malicious keylogger program of some kind was responsible.
Is there a website somewhere, which tells you the type of access security which different banks use, so that you can evaluate the risk before giving them your money ?

I consider that the pinSentry used by Barclays is pretty good - better than clicking on-screen numbers (used by ING direct).
But in this day and age, keying in a password must be a big No-No !

How do you know the money was stolen? Maybe someone with legit access to the account transferred it somewhere?

Also i note you are a new poster. Maybe you are really phishing for security info?
  • When is you sister off to to the Maldives then?

Or is this an advert for Barclays???

    ;)

No that is not the case with the internet saver account.
You can set up payment mandates, to any other account, online. You do not need to phone Sainsburys Bank.

I must admit, the Help Screen did give different names for the accounts this applied to and I did wonder. Hmmm... I'll check that out. Cheers!

EDIT: Yes, you're quite right. I set up a new mandate to my other current account. It only asked me for a different question to the one I'd logged in with. Although I also got an email straight away to say this had been done.

Nat West are pushing Rapport s/ware currently - supposed to add another level of security;also Nat West require the use of a card reader to set up a new payee acc.I think some of the other banks require the use of a card reader too.
