Consider yourself lucky. This company is a rip-off. But to be honest all of them use this kind of sales tactics you witnessed. They drop their price suddenly and labell it discount??? and then get stroppy when you dont give a yes answer.
Their loss is your gain. Trust me, this same company even though they put the phone down would call you shortly attempting to make the sale...mark my word!!0 -
To give you an idea of material costs at retail prices (eg what you could buy for)
16m soffit costs just £120
20m facia costs just £70
18m of gutter costs £36
Ok you need clips , fixings, joints , downpipe, end pieces etc but roughly speaking doing a meter of soffit, facia and guttering in material costs is no more than £15 to £20 per m so even adding on 50% profit means material costs should not be more than £30 per .
I can't see the work taking more than a couple of days.0 -
i never forget when i was looking for double glazing quotes, some bloke from a company that put a leaflet through the door came round (at my invitation) real old school sales bloke, sat down on my sofa with his briefcase etc. i said to him i dont want any sales talk, i just want a quote, i dont want to sit here listening to information i just want the prices. he said he could do that if i was to sign on the dotted line today. i said no, i want a quote so i can compare it with other companies and talk to others about the quote.
he said, well if you're going to be like that, im wasting my time, i might as well bugg** off now then, i said, yes, you should and ordered him out of my flat.
as he was leaving he made ridiculous comments like 'oh i thought you were a mature woman, not a little girl that you have to check the prices with your family and friends'
i did not buy double glazing from them suffice to say0 -
definitely go with someone else and if the saleman gets back in touch take great pleasure in explaining the reason you didn't go with them was the exceptionally rude treatment you got from the commercial director.0

Now, a new development. A firm are doing a house up the road, and will be finished later today. Their guy has been up and down our road, looking which houses need repairs. Ours definately needs it.
He came to the door, they have no work for next week, can he quote me?
£850 is his quote, I can have a month after job is finished to pay, but they want to start on Monday.
My hubby is in client meetings all day, so I need to decide. I must say £850 sounds much more reasonable ....
It's a 4 bed detatched BTW, so all 4 sides need doing.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
what do you think of the work he has done on the house up the road, go and talk with the neighbours if you can.
im not trying to throw a spanner in the works but is 850 quid a bit low, are they going to do a good job with quality materials?
how many metres around the house is the length of the work?0 -
I've been to look, work looks good up the road, altho owners aren't in.
The house next door to the current one has been done too.
The guy has explained they take all the old stuff away, make sure any rotting woodwork underneath is made good, assures me it's a quality job (I know, he would say that, wouldn't he ?)I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
Two things here would make me comfortable about this quote...
1 - You have a month to pay. This suggests not fly by nights.
2 - You have local work to inspect and talk to the neighbours, but make sure you do talk with them.
The £850 sounds cheap, and in all honesty be prepared for that to end up closer to £1200 as extras are found that need repairing/replacing. However at that price it's still good.0 -
Well, we've been umming and ahhh-ing over this for the last year, and the ruddy guttering was falling off. Seeing as this was less than 1/2 any previous quotes, and I can see other work done by them, It's as well just to get it over with.
Now I just need to get the cash togetherI try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
Hey, that company wasn't virgo? perchance was it?
They sent their "sales director" out apparently, who quoted me 9000 to replace 3 gutters on a 3-bed semi. Then gave me an amazing 52% discount off the bat. Interesting.
Oddly enough I told them where to go0
