Is it DOS, or is it DOS commands for CMD that you need to be studying? CMD goes above and beyond the scope of DOS and is much more applicable to real world computing than DOS would be now.

IIRC, It's a bit of both..I did my A+ in my lunchbreaks last year. Most of what they ask applies to CMD as well as "pure" DOS.

I can't say as I find DOS "irrelevant", even under XP/Server03/03R2/08 - there are a lot of DOS techniques and commands that can blow XP out of the water.

I'm going to try and get to grips with powershell at some point - that looks like the next logical progression for it.

DOS for dummies is indeed a decent starting point.

As for me, I started out with commodore VIC20s, and CP/M before I moved to DOS 2.0, so I'm quite happy with command line working.
  • one thing i have found about DOS or CMD over the years is that there will be a GUI out there somewhere that does what you want, and it wont be a memory hog as you simply press a button and it runs the comands you want. but if the exam folks say you need to kow then you need to know it. and it is usefull to know just incase you need to use it at some point to fix something and it realy impresses your boss
