Has something changed with Pipex internet access?

I've been with Pipex for broadband for over 2 years. In the last few weeks I've been having problems with being suddenly 'cut off' from the internet for no apparent reason. I'll just suddenly get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" page, although the broadband icon shows I am still connected (?!). No matter what I do I cannot then get anything other than this page.
I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting to Pipex broadband, but it gets as far as 'verifying user name' etc. and sticks on that so I cannot reconnect.
If I restart the computer I can sometimes get through again.
This is very annoying and has only been happening recently. Has anyone else had the same problem?
Someone told me that Pipex is being taken over, or has recently been taken over (though I have had no news from Pipex about this). Could this perhaps be a reason for the problems?

Pipex were taken over by Tiscali two or three years ago, unfortunately for me and many other customers it wasn't a happy time. I left Pipex/tiscali last May after 12 years with them, customer service became a joke  Tiscali have been looking to sell the UK operation for months now.
A search will bring up plenty of current problems Frances http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=16146830 -
Thanks meggsy, I didn't realise Tiscali had taken Pipex over. I had Tiscali (on 'pay as you go') before and didn't like them as they over-charged me by a fortune! I think it's time for a change.
I'll check out the other thread too.0 -
Hi Frances63
I have been with Pipex for over a year and am forever suffering from their internet access just dropping out. If you ring their tech support it costs you a fortune, being an 0871 number, and you don't get any answers! I rang yesterday requesting my MAC code (using an 0871 number against my better judgement) and was told I would receive it in 5 working days. Surprise, surprise at 8.45 am this morning my phone rang and a voice text from Pipex informed me of my MAC code! My mobile and e-mail have also been advised! Yippee BT here I come, at least you can moan at them if the BB goes down because it is their line. Good luck with your problems.:j0
