hi there, i wonder what others would do in my position? i am assistant manager in a local store, we do paypoint transactions, tv licence gas and electric payments on paypoint, well 5 weeks ago i did a paypoint transaction for 15 electric and 15 gas, when someone does two like this i ring in on the till paypoint 30 , to save ringing transaction in twice, i then proceeded to put 30 on the electric key then realised it was only 15, i did a reversal of this 30 .(or so i thought) you can only cancel the last transaction not any more and you have to have the customers card or key to do this reversal, i told the customer what i had done and thats ok, when i came to total the till at the end of the night the paypoint was 60 down!! i had the original 2 reciepts for the transaction and the reversal and i phoned pay point to tell them the error that i made and guess what they couldnt reverse this! it was entirely my fault i was stupid and did not check the reversal had gone through, any way i had to pay 60 into the paypoint money and was hoping the customer would come back in, he will have known that he would have had 60 credit to his electric because when the key is put in the meter it shows you the credit, this customer came back in four weeks later( after he had used the60 and i told him what i had done and that i had to put this 60 in not the company, he said that his wife didnt tell him the meter was showing extra 60 and he would get it for me, i said he could give me 5 a week if he wanted as long as i got it back, that was 9 days ago!! what a not nice person, i went to bridlington on tue and guess who i saw, he has money to go to seaside but not to pay me back, i dont think he will come in the shop again and i have resigned my self to the fact that i will never see this money again, anyway thanks for reading and i hope i did not bore you too much with my little tale of woe lol or the rubbish punctuation i so kindly had pointed out to me lol

I'm not sure why you have resigned....
Anyway, as you are aware it was your own fault. I have done the same thing in the past on a smaller scale, put £10 credit on someone's phone when they only wanted £5. Phone topups can't be reversed and so I was £5 down and although they customer was well aware they had an extra`£5, they didn't pay it as it wasn't their error!
I can't even work out how come you were £60 down. I assume that the customer paid you £30 (£15 gas and £15 electric). You did £15 gas and £30 electric = £45. So £15 short. Assuming that when you went to do a reversal you put another £30 on the electric by mistake, you are still only £45 down (£15 gas + £30 leccy + £30 leccy - £30 payment off customer).

hi i did not resign, i have resigned myself to the fact that i will not get this money back, i put 30 on his electric and another 30 i thought was reversed and it wasnt which made 60, then i put his 15 on each! that made 90 in total so with his 30 he paid i was 60 down. wont do that again in a hurry0

i see how you made the mistake and i sympathise. As i knew it was out of your pocket i would pay you back, had it been out of the companies i may not have!!

Okaaaaaayyy.....
I think I understand what you are saying, but the lack of punctuation makes it very difficult to follow.
You made an error and credited his electric meter key with £60 instead of £15 and his gas meter key with £0 instead of £15.
He paid £30 (?) Instead of the £60 because that is what he originally wanted, but your till was £60 down at the end of the day and you had to pay?
Sounds like it was your error, not a lot you can do about it.......0 -
I'm a prepay customer and I've had other issues with staff making mistakes. I asked for £15 on each of a card and key. They did two transactions of £15 but both on the card. I didn't find out till I got home - therefore lots of gas but no electricity for me! The girls were too busy chatting about their plans for the evening to pay any attention to the difference between a card and a blue key
I rang them to tell them what they did and ask what would have happened if it was my last £30 and I had no more money to put more on my key? Er um, we'd have to tell you to see the manager... she's only in on a tuesday afternoon.
Well thanks, that would have left me with almost a week with no lights, tv, kettle, cooker - and no heating anyway since the timer etc needs electricity  And I'd have needed to take a day off work just to try and see the manager to get it sorted.
Thankfully it wasn't so close to the end of the month to cause a problem - but could easily have been.
Since then I carefully check my receipts every time, before I leave the shop.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

I think they put £30 on leccy by mistake. Tried to reverse it but ended up putting an extra £30 on it. And then (as they thought they'd reversed it) put the customer's £15 on the key too.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Ah. I see.
Ok. Unfortunate and you know he knows that you know what happened....
He will probably keep coming back hoping that you will do it again!
Shame though.0 -

for anyone who still doesnt understand what she's saying i think is , she credited the keys 30 instead of 15 ok error , she tried to reverse it then when thinking it was reversed did the original transaction of 15 on each but the reversal hadnt happened therefore leaving 45 per key am i right?
hope it helps
