Royal Mail - breach of contract?

Recently I have tried to claim from the Royal Mail when they failed to deliver and apparently lost a 1st class recorded item. When claiming they say I live at an invalid address and therefore cannot deal with any claim. They actually sent their postal notification dismissing my claim to my 'invalid' address :rotfl:

My 'invalid' address is a new house. But whilst we have been building our home, , they have been delivering mail to us for the last 2years and continue to do so.

I have tried to study their T&C's but I cannot find anywhere that allows the Royal Mail to take your money for a service which they then fail to provide and avoid paying any compensation claiming an address is 'invalid' ; perhaps not on their computer?.

Surely, they should verify and accept my address before accepting payment if they wish to later void any claim for non- performance.

Are the Royal mail in breach of contract having accepted payment for a service which they have failed to provide. Then excuse themselves from any claim on an address they could have checked before accepting payment?

Is an address invalid because it's not on their computer?

If I read that right you tried to claim for a item addressed to you which I presume was sent by someone else.

The post office contract is with the consignor not the consignee and it is up to them to raise a claim. If its something you have purchased you should claim from the retailer.

Not sure where the invalid address bit comes into it unless its a lazy response from a post office employee

Sorry for my lack of clarity.

No. I'm the consignor. RM failed to deliver and then refused to accept my claim. The reason being that they regard I live at an 'invalid' address. RM advised me of their refusal to accept the claim by writing to me at what they say is an 'invalid' address.

In that case I would suggest your next step is to take your complaint to a higher level and complain to the manager.

I've tried that but the call centre put you on hold then eventually dis-connect you.

If this is their standard practice and they are deliberately breaching their contract with paying customers; are they conducting their business fraudulently?

I am prepared to take this to the very top if somebody can give me a n email address of the ' the boss ' of RM - or should I consider litigation via the small claims court: perhaps my claim for approx £12 is below their threshhold?

    My address doesn't exist.

So how come they've been delivering mail here for two years; including registered items?

I now believe RM have lost another 1st class recorded delivery item , sent on the 8th April.

It's not the cost of the stamp that matters. A recorded delivery item costs more than just a stamp and the contents may be of little value above a pice of paper. ie on the 8th I sent a final demand statement to a Company owing me money. Previously the RM lost a present sent by the same method. My concern is that having taken payment for a service they offer they have not delivered the item as contracted and then refuse to answer my enquires at what they say is an invalid address.

You state "and the cost of a 1st Class stamp is how much?" are you suggesting that if I write to the RM it is more likely to be delivered than if sent a letter1st class rather than also recorded delivery? If not, why should I write to them and waste further money for which RM will refuse to compensate me?
