in Water bills
The plumbing advice includes 'Q: I am about to buy a new bathroom suite, is there anything I should look for to ensure the toilet has a good flush?
Make sure the cistern will give a 9 litre flush – most are set to 6 litres. (I recommend you buy a turbo 88 siphon for approx £14)

Surely this will cost you (and the environment) 3lt per flush more, each flush? 1/3 of the water used by a family is flushed down the loo - about 16,000lt per year! Imagine being able to half that just by having a low flush loo...
What you should look for is a dual flush 6lt / 3lt, with a better designed pan, probably even a super low flush loo such as Green Building Store offer.....We have gone over to a water meter as a family as we are now saving so much water that we have reduced our bills..
We have low flush / dual flush loos, low water use washing mahcine and dishwasher and eco-shower heads. In addition, we store 'grey water' (from bathroom sinks and baths) as well as rainwater to clean the bikes, water garden etc. All our taps have tapmate's fitted to them as well...

I'm trying to be as green as possible with water. Have just posted a question on 'In My Home' board about saving bath water for watering the garden, perhaps I should have put it here. What I wanted to know was how to collect water from the wastepipe in a groundfloor bathroom, what would you suggest. What is a 'tapmate'?0
