Suggestion to split "old style" into two new boards

Options
I have a suggestion to split "old style" into two new boards.

One for cooking/food/menus/meal-planning only and a seperate one for everything & anything else.

I love the cooking side of it, but its a huge board full of info & while lots of people are into cooking they won't be into cleaning tips with vinigar, etc.

What do others think?

Would you like to see "old style" split in two (or more boards)? 51 votes

No, it's perfect the way it is

I would have preferred to answer this on the Old Style Board, because it is scary away from there, where you kindly posted this, but I got there too late. :o

Perhaps cooking could be merged with the food and food shopping board? That would make some sense.

On the other hand, a lot of the ideas of the Old Style seem to be all mixed up. So cooking from scratch is seen as old style perhaps rather than a fascinating hobby or a lifestyle choice.

Sorry, but that would make no sense to me :o Old Style is defined by MSE as being about what we used to call "Domestic Science", that is cooking, cleaning, and homecrafts. Shopping, and finding food and grocery bargains, is something completely different, IMHO.

If Old Style does get split, it will really need to be into three:
    • Cooking
    • Cleaning
    • Homecrafts

I would have thought that as cooking is such a huge part of it that it would be enough to have cooking & other old style?

I think it being under old style means a lot of budding cooks (men perhaps & people who don't see themselves as old style) don't get the full value of it.

I love cooking, from scratch BUT in no way do I see myself as old style in any other ways. I use every modern appliance & cleaning product I can get my hands on (& love them:o) & I'm not crafty at all:o But I love cooking.

I think cooking is so big now, its the new home decorating, cooking is the new dining out, that it derserves its own board:D

There are as many home cooking shows on TV now, as they were decorating programmes 10 years ago.

I agree shops & shopping is seperate from cooking.
The shopping board could well have a load of info on where to get cheap ready meals!!!!!!

I can't see any point to splitting up the board:confused:

I only look at food and cooking related threads -I don't do cleaning or crafts;) I've never found it a problem to find what I want on the board.

    .

I think in theory it's a good idea, but it may split the "old style" community (into two smaller communities) I know I'd only visit the cooking forum, and then may miss some other essential OS cleaning tips through not visiting that board as well.

I think it's nice the way it is :T

    (sorry MrsE)

    I never though of that:think:

It could be like the familes board, with the cooking being the main & the cleaning & crafts having a sub board each?

I think we all agree that the OS board is huge & can be cumbersome.

I like the sub-board idea - whispers - as the recipes do obscure the hints & tips  Was that OS heresy? off to hide under the bed!

I would prefer that the board was not split, but I think sub boards would be acceptable if we do need to make a change.

Nope - I like it exactly as it is myself. One can easily enough skim over threads that one isnt interested in. Personally - I've learnt a lot also from ones that just caught my eye - whilst looking for the sorta topics I know I'm interested in.
