Downgrading on Orange Contract
Hello I took out 2 orange contract back on 8th September 2005 on the Premier Plan 600. This deal was taken out from a independant retailer who offered me a very good deal for 6 months via cashback. I have received all my cashback and no problem there. However I was wondering now my 6 months is almost over how can i downgrade my tariff as this tariff is £55 per contract. As the cashback is over I can no longer afford to pay £110 per month and neither do i require all the minutes.
The problem is my contract started on the 8th September but my billing date is on the 17th September, as you know we know pay the money in advance so when I get this month bill I will be charged around £110 for next month usage (i.e. 17 March - 16 Apri). Now is there anyway I could downgrade say on the 11th of March so my new billing comes to be around £25 per contract or will I have to pay £110 for next month and then downgrade it on 18th March 2006 which will take into effect from 17 April 2006.
I Spoke to an orange rep who says I can downgrade after 6 months which falls on 17th March 2006 but that will only come into effect for my next billing date (17 April onwards). However my 6 months passes after the 8th of march so should they not downgrade me after that date so it comes into effect straightaway.
Can onyone clarify this with me and also my rights. My cashback are not affected as I have recieved all my cashbacks. Thanks

It was somewhere about that time that they stopped some contracts, like Premier, being downgradeable. But if you have been assured that yours is ok, then that was presumably shortly after yours.
It's 8th March today, so I don't think there is any chance at all to do it straight away. Usually, they change it from the next billing date, provided that you give enough notice, so it sounds like you should be talking about that right now.0 -
You should inform Orange now that you want to downgrade the tariff. However, the downgrade will not become effective until the next billing date.
Also, Orange do something called OVP (Orange Value Promise). Basically they will emulate certain other networks tariffs. this might be of interest to you?
See here for details of OVP:

Yeah what I was wondering is that if i inform them now will it become effective from 17th March which is my next billing date or will it be from 17th April. Cos the person from orange informed me I could downgrade after 17 march (which according to them is 6 months) which will become effective for my billing date which will then be 17 April. However I would like it to be effective from 17th March.
For downgrading premier plan they bought out a new rule which is only for new customer who have signed after october 2005 and the rule is they cant downgrade premier plan what so ever.0 -
For Orange Value Promise do you think they could emulate T mobile Flex package. What is their orange best OVP at the moment?, Im looking around the £25 region.0

you can only change your tariff from your billing date. but you must call a few days in advance.
orange will let you downgrade as soon as you are allowed to.0 -

You pay forward with line rental and in arrears with calls. Therefore your new billing will be effective from 17 March.
Orange do not, at the moment, emulate the TMobile Flext tariffs.
I suggest the 02 100 tariff at £25 monthly which gives you 100 minutes + 100 texts. The 02 50 tariff at £19 monthly gives you 50 minutes and 25 texts.
Vodafone Anytime 100 for £22 per month gives you 100 minutes, but no texts.0 -
Orange give me 500 x net mins and 500 text for £25. If I can have this then so should you !!
All the best.nothing.0 -
Tom I don't beleive that is a standard orange tarriff offer- probably was a special renegotiation offer that they gave you to stay with them and as such I doubt very much whether the op can get this deal.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0

All the best.
But, did Orange offer you this in order to entice you to stay with them when you were at the end of your initial contract term?0
