AutoAid - Watch Out!
This is a breakdown recovery service that isn't...
We broke down last Saturday, and tried to call them for assistance - no number. We tried various 118 no's, no assistance no. We got someone to go to their website - no assistance no. So we were stuck.
We eventually (after 20 phone calls) tracked down a local repair service, which we paid for.
I called AutoAid the next day. They said that they didn't give out their no. as people call who aren't members. A silly excuse if I ever heard one! They said we should have gone to their website and downloade their brochure, and the no. was on that brochure. Insane!
Well, I assume this is a scam they're running. Offer roadside assistance, but if the person doesn't happen to have them on thema at the time, they have to go elsewhere - and pay themselves.
This low-cost roadside assistance scheme can be mighty expensive...
Just want to warn others!

do you not pay yourself anyway? whoever they send out /or you call needs paying by you . then reclaim the money back0

Yes keep the receipt and send in your claim. Read the policy.0

With Auto-Aid you always have the option of calling a local breakdown service, then submitting the receipt for a refund; you don't have to go through their call centre. Not a problem, it's just the way it works.
So it won't have cost you anything if you're a member.
I always carry the brochure in the car but, just in case, their number is in all our mobiles.0 -
I want to complain as well. When I called them (on the number that is on the certificate which I carry in my car
on a piece of paper in my wallet and on my mobile) the breakdown man they sent (in under 50 mins) didn't bring tea and cakes
. Should I ask for compensation ?

I must admit to not having to having to call them out yet
but
I have a photocopy of my certificate of insurance in the car with membership number on, this also has their phone number on it...I assume I would call this if I wanted help
I also have their phone number in my mobile phone (and in the wifes)
I also know that if I did breakdown and happened to know of a local garage/breakdown company and wanted to call them I could and would then claim the money back
I honestly cant see what you have to complain about- you didnt have their number on you (not their fault), you called out a local company which you paid directly- you would also have had to pay them if AutoAid had sent them out for you.
You can now claim the money back by completing the claim form. From reports on here they are pretty quick at sending out the cheque.
It sounds like you may not have understood the policy that you have taken out but from what I recall they do make it pretty clear...
"Our breakdown service operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with staff who are trained and equipped with the most modern computer-based mapping technology available.
With AutoAid you are free to choose the roadside help you need, without having to wait around for approval – or you can call our 24 hour helpline.
Either way, just pay for it yourself safe in the knowledge that you’re insured and we will reimburse you in full.""

to be honest these replies are falling on deaf ears. Given they signed up for a service without reading how it works and what the service actually covers suggest any replies here will probably fall into the same abyss
Maybe it could be on the Ven t board instead. "I paid a company to provide a service and they had the audacity to do exactly what they said they would do."0 -
Thanks for this you have just remined me they sent the renewal papers a week ago and I have not returned them yet. Which of course I will as they have always provided an excellent service at a bargain price.0

I used them once last year and they were spot on, I have the phone numbers in the car and in my mobile. Why would anyone pay for a breakdown service and not carry the phone number??0

So you phoned them on a number you couldn't find...?!
Is there a point to this thread? Apart from having a rant cos you're too thick to read the policy?0
