Catherine's "Stay out of debt" diary

Well I am jumping on the diary wagon :j but in a slightly different way, I think?
My story so far:
I'm 22 and currently live with my boyfriend in a lovely lovely rented house. But the credit crunch has finally caught up with us and we can no longer afford to live together so we are moving back in with our parents
I do have a job at the moment but I am at risk of redundancy. There is a very high chance that I will lose my job, and as I have only been here a year I won't get any kind of payout.
So this diary is to help me keep on track.
- If I keep my job then I will have at least £500 spare a month  which I HAVE to be sensible with so hopefully this diary will keep me in check.
- If I lose my job I have £1500 in overdraft and credit cards to tide me over so this diary will help me to control my spending so I can cope while I find a new job.
At the moment I have got a bit of debt but nothing major:
I have a joint loan with OH - £89 each a month 'til Jan 2010 and I owe about £200 on my credit card that I can pay off on Monday so that is nothing to worry about
So yes, hello anyone who is going to follow my progress! Wish me luck!!

Hi Catherine,
Well done with starting a diary - mines has made a big difference, only spent £2.50 in the last 3 days and that is good for me. Hope the job loss doesn't happen, fingers crossed x0 -

£2.50 in 3 days is not bad at all! I'm worried about what I will do if I do keep my job and have all that money spare. £500 a month!! Half of me is saying "save for a mortgage deposit and a new car" and the other half is screaming "NEW CLOOOTHHHEESSS"
Luckily I found this site before moving out of my parents house so good habits have been drilled into me. Saying that I have no savings!! So perhaps this diary will help me realise where my spare money goes - probably "lending" money to OH...so he will have a shock when we don't live together anymore :rotfl:0 -
Morning!
Well there's not much to report today really - apart from it's only bladdy Friday wooooo :j
I'm going to a wedding reception tomorrow night and don't know if I need to take money with me or not? I feel a bit weird asking...I suppose I could just take some money with me anyway but if there is a free bar and I have cash I will end up spending it on silly things instead, no doubthmm.
I took a cabinet I bought a few weeks ago round to my Mum's last night, which she is giving me £50 forand OH owes me £50! That can go into savings for my looming redundancy.
I keep coming up with theories about this whole redundancy thing. Our site is closing down and some people are being transferred over to a different site. The big bosses have given us the criteria (basically last in first out in a clever way) so I'd be the one to go based on that.
But there are 3 clerks in my office, one has applied for voluntary redundancy and the other only wants to be part time after the move so that surely leaves me?? But then will they even want a clerk in the new place?? ARrrg I wish they'd let us know
Anyway I have some very thrilling (not) tasks to get on with so must be off :wave:0 -
Oh yeah one more thing to add - when I was at my Mum's last night she said that I have to start saving up to move out as soon as I can when I move in with her next month!! She didn't mean it in a horrible way at all, and I can see where she is coming from but even if I save up to live on my own I don't know if I can afford it? Plus I have 2 cats so finding a decent flat to rent with them will be hard!
Oh well who knows, maybe I'll be the only clerk left and they'll put my wages up LOADS to persuade me to stay then I can move into a lovely little house of my own with only my mess to tidy up and only my dinners to cook, wouldn't that be nice!:D
On someone's sig yesterday I saw a quote: "If you're going through hell, keep walking!" (thankyou to whoever's sig that was!) so now when I start feeling sad about moving out of my house and losing my job I say "keep walking" to myself and I cheer up0 -
Excellent news - I managed to spend no money at the wedding last night :T
I'm at work now with a wine hangover :doh:but earning time and a half for 4 hours so mustn't grumble!!0
