Hey Guys,
I was wandering if someone can help me.
My friend is moving back to America as he came here to work in the UK, but due to the recession he lost his job!
He sold me his Sky HD Box for £10... bargain if you ask me!!
However... I am currently with Sky in the place I live and I only have the basic Sky box...
If I already own a Sky HD box, do I just plug it in and I can receive HD channels? Or do I need to sign up with Sky and sign up to there packages and therefore I am obliged to take a box with them.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Hi buffness, when we upgraded from Sky to Sky+, they had to come out to add a new receiver onto the Sky dish. Our new receiver has 4 connectors on it. Two of those are required for the Sky+ unit. My understanding is therefore that you would need to upgrade your sky dish receiver so it has 4 lnb (Low Noise Block-downconverter) - its known as a quad lnb.
My understanding is that you can get freesat with just one lnb, but you need more than one for the Sky HD etc. Have a look at your Sky dish to see if you have any spare connectors.
Try posting on the technical section of this forum - they are very helpful. I had a question about Sky and the dishes that was answered very quickly.

You don't technically need 2 feeds, but without it, you can only watch the 1 channel. 2 feeds gives you the option to record 1 channel and watch another.
You would have to subscribe to the HD mix (9.75/month) to get the HD channels.
Depending on how confident you are, a new quad LNB can be bought for around £10. You would then have to run another cable to the HD box.Dave. :wave:0
