I have been claiming JSA since the new year having been made redundant just before Christmas. I am going abroad next Wednesday for a family wedding which was all booked and paid for before I lost my job. I have informed JCP and they have told me that I need to sign off and then sign on again. Coincidently next Wednesday was the date that my 13 week interview was due to take place. Do you know if I sign on again will I be classed as being at 13 weeks or will I be back to day 1? I ask because I am not actively seeking LOCAL employment as myself and my girlfriend are moving (150 miles) at the end of the month. We have to move otherwise my girlfriend would be made redundant. I have been looking in the area we are moving to but until we move I can't make an concerted effort.

If you are not making an effort to find a job then you are breaking the conditions of JSA and therefore not entitled to it!

Is the wedding abroad? If not you can be treated as available for work and continue to receive JSA, no the 13 weeks won't start again, you'll still be due the 13wk interview.

You can make a concerted effort to look for work in the new area surely? Telephone/email/internet?

  • Are you having a laugh alwaysonthego?!? What am I meant to do....actively search for a job here when I am moving in 3 weeks or do what I am doing and try and see what is available where I am moving to (a town I have never stayed in and know no one so have no idea in regards to job availability). Alternatively I could try and get a job where I am now and just tell my girlfriend were not moving so she can get made redundant. Thanks for your great advice............
  • The wedding is abroad Sammyjammy. I have been looking online for jobs but have come up with nothing as yet but once I move then I will be in a better position to look.
  • alwaysonthego was only stating the rules with regards to JSA. Surely you could look at jobs available in the new area via the internet, just search for jobs in the new location.

If you know where you are moving why are you not looking for a job before you move? Like other posters have stated on the internet, the job centre website blah blah. You seem to be full of excuses!

If you know the rules why are you saying you are not making an effort, if the JCP heard you saying that you would be sanctioned.
  • You seem to have some bee in your bonnet alwaysonthego. Having been made redundant 3 times in the past years due to the decimation of the printing industry we have no option to move otherwise we would both be made redundant. All I am entitled to is JSA due to my girlfriends earnings. All I was looking for was some advice....not a personal attack due to me saying I'm not actively seeking employment due to our circumstances which will be rectified in 2 weeks. Blah blah f'ing blah!

I certainly haven't got a bee in my bonnet as you say, I think your attitude comes over as very high and mighty. I was merely stating the rules, I have seen people sanctioned from the JCP for not making any effort to find a job and being rather upfront about it.
