BT HTC Blackberry - can I get rid of the BT stuff?
Options
I have just been given a BT HTC blackberry.
My O2 sim card works in it for phone calls etc but it keeps trying to connect to BT internet and failing..... I also cant connect to the internet or email etc on O2.
Someone mentioned that there is a way to 'rebadge' it? Ie removed the BT stuff so I can use it.
Can someone let me know if I can do this??
Cheers

Sorry, is it a HTC or a Blackberry or both?
If it's windows mobile based (HTC) you can most likely do a ROM (operating system) upgrade with will either be standard ROM or a customised 'cooked' ROM. Maybe check on the XDA-developers forum as there's loads of stuff on there.
I'm not sure if you can do the same on a BB, but it wouldn't surprise me if you can.
The other option is to ring o2 and ask them to send you updated internet settings as you have changed phones. This won't remove the branding, but it will let yoiu connect to the other services.
For BB specific services you may need to add the BB bolt-on, but many services will work anyway so don't pay too much.0 -
It not a matter of rebadge it's trying to connect through BT which the O2 sim won't do.
You need to change the settings for all the data services to the O2 ones.
What's the model number ? There are HTC phones and there are Blackberry's, what do you actually have ?0 -
Didnt know how to find out what model etc it was but just managed to find one on ebay which is the same. Its a BT HTC S620 Smartphone I think.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0

Hey Kit
As per Astec's post see xda-devs on instructions on how to load a different rom which will remove the bt software. Then as per Jon's post you'll need to go to change the settings which you'll get from O2's XDA microsite0 -
Thanks all
Will see what i can do.... sounds a little technical for me but I will try!2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
Really ROM upgrades aren't that hard. All you need is Microsoft Activesync (free to download) and a data cable. I tried 4 different ROM's one evening whilst looking for the one I preferred, it's like changing the display settings on your computer. I'd recommend putting on the official ROM first, but you can just go for a WM6.1 upgrade.
Do read the instructions carefully though or you could end up killing the phone, just make sure any preliminary software is installed first.

You don't need to go flashing ROM's or anything like that, you just need to edit the settings for the connection from BT to the 02 ones..
Unless someone digs them out before I get home, I'll find them and the process you need to go about to change them. It's not as daunting as it's being made out.0 -
Thanks. I've been to the xdadevelopers site but its a little tooooooo confusing for poor little me!!2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0
