Can I record videos from a freeview box

Hello I hope someone can help, I'm trying to get my 92 year Dad sorted for digital. He's now got a tv with freeview in but he still wants to record on his old video, am I right in thinking that we can get a seperate freeview box to connect directly to his video and then he can record from that and watch a different programme on the tv??

short answer no the best way to do this i buy a recordable freview box you can record on to the box and then transfer the programs on to your normal video

Thanks, but I was hoping I could do something that was a bit less complicated, I thought that my idea would take care of trying to teach something new, he till has to get used to the tv yet

yes he can but would find it very complicated,you would have to do it via the scart connector,
better to buy him a freeview pvr

As said before it can be done but is very complicated. Got my Mom a freeview dvr (less than £100) and all you have to do is press record twice when on the programme guide and you can also select to record a series of programmes. I know its hard when the folks get older but this is the best way.

Thankyou everyone I've bitten the bullet and got a freeview+ box, pvr thingy, just have to learn how to use it now.
