norton renewal advice

I agree with everyone who says get rid of Norton, its horrible!
And as for my recommendation, I'd go with Kaspersky, its easy to use, has a lovely interface and also the high detection rating. At Amazon right now you can buy a 3 licence pack of the internet protection suite for £18 quid. Thats antivirus, firewall, adware and spam! £18 is a bargain considering it'll protect up to 3 PC's!

There really isn't any need to pay for stuff these days.
Avira for antivirus.
Comodo for Firewall
Superantispyware, Malewarebytes and Spybot for adware.
All free and most do better jobs than any paid for stuff
And unless you continually use dodgy sites then you'll never get bitten.
Oh and Firefox rather than IENo reliance should be placed on the above.0 -

Thankyou. But as it happens I dont currently use any antivirus software or software firewalls at all. I know that sounds like madness, but the weakest link as far as PC security goes is the user. And if you know what your doing you can keep yourself nice and safe without any software. I prefer this as I like to have the least amount of services and software running as possible to keep my PC running as fast as possible. Its lean and mean on my machine!
I'm primarily protected by the hardware firewall built into my wireless access point. This will block worms, scans and hackers. I make sure I dont use Internet Explorer to surf the net as 99% of web exploits target that browser, and use Chrome instead (its lightning fast and has superb security). I read my email online in GMail, including any attachments which Google scans for viruses (I never download attachments - and if I do I make sure GMail has scanned them for viruses, and that I know who sent them and why). I only install pucker well known software that I've done a bit of research on. And I'm very careful about where I go and what I do on the internet.
How do I know I'm not infected by some invisible nasty? I do periodic checks, keep a watchful eye for the signs of infections, and monitor my PC's connections from time to time (running NETSTAT -AO in the command line a couple of minutes after a clean boot up will show if you have anything nasty running in the background thats phoning home or joining a bot net). I've been working like this for years and have never... have had few problems.SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?"
