You need to give 30 days notice.

I did this when moving house as I will take up a new customer offer in the new house.

I did not cancel the DD straight away as I would owe then £5 for part month service.

They took the whole £18 though.

I called them and they said 30 days after the cancellation has gone through I'll get a cheque for the difference.

They also ssaid I will get sent a final bill to my new address and a jiffy bag to return the cable modem in.

New final bill and no jiffy bag.

Oh well, 1 Motorola surfboard modem for me.

Not thats its much use as they tie the modems to accounts/addresses I believe.

Make sure that the cancellation is in writing and make sure you get a letter to confirm the cancellation from Telewest. Cancel your DD with the bank after the final payment. There have been posts on here about ISPs still DD their old customers and also have had demand for payments even when they are no longer with them, sometimes it took them (their old ISPs) to realise this and get it sorted out.

when ever i have left ans ISP I give the 30 day notice from the day they take the payment and I cancel my DD via my online banking if they require further cash for some reason they have always shouted fast enough and send me an letter asking for a cheque which is a more secure method than leaving their DD open for them to cherry pick at.

I gave my cancellation notice last month, after some very hard sales talk from the advisor. When I phoned up last week to move the cancellation date from 5th March to 12th March, I found that the original advisor had actually put my cancellation date in as the 15th April!!!! I explained to the advisor that I gave my 30 days notice at around the 5th February, so it couldn't be should have ended in March, not April! She apologised and corrected the error straight away and moved it to the 12th March, as requested. I guess the original advisor didn't like me answering "No Thank You" to all the offers he threw my way!! If I was you, I'd ring a few days after you give your notice, to double check that they have put the right end date down.
