Many congratulations to Rhys :T he'll never have any money now Nat
It costs a fortune for youngsters early on, my daughter passed first time last year and the insurance is crippling to start.
It pays to get him insured in his own name and have a parent as a named driver, saved my daughter £600Lads insurance is even worse:( but at least he'll have his independence. Well done, First Timers Club is a great achievement

I totally agree dilus, my oldest passed his first time almost 5 years ago and it was a crippling quote, so it was decided that his dad is the 2nd driver and my son keeps to the first driver to gain his no claims and have saved big time.;):jThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

They must think that having a parent on as a named driver means they will drive more carefully and look after the car better Di, it certainly saves you money and that's what we are all aboutSuccesses

Thank you Di and Dilus, we brought Rhys a 1.0 corsa with our firstplus ppi refund last year. It cost us £2100 to insure it with I cube, Rhys as the main driver and me as a named driver, it was the cheapest insurance we could find . It really is so expensive for youngster's to get driving these days, why should all teenagers be branded as bad it is not fair on the good ones.0 -

Agreed, I personally think that they should be given a year to prove themselves as good drivers, give them insurance at a set realistic cost and clobber them hard with a big excess to pay if they have an at fault accident in the first year.
I know statistics say they are more likely to have an accident in the first year but why penalise them before they have had one  With youngsters having to travel further to get employment a car is almost a necessity and it costs them far too much at a time when they have the least disposable incomeI do feel for them, they invest a fortune passing their test and get hammered financially when they do.
