As glandular fever is a virus and Antibiotics do not work against viruses I don’t know it the doctor prescribed an antibiotic for you, it says that as the first symptoms are flu like that a lot of GP’s prescribed an antibiotic until blood tests come back. At first, glandular fever is sometimes wrongly diagnosed, for example as a bacterial throat infection or tonsillitis. If you are given treatment for a bacterial infection with the antibiotics ampicillin or amoxycillin,
    Symptoms

high fever (temperature above 39C or 102.2F Check temperature frequently
    very sore throat;swollen tonsils, with a white coating;
tiredness and lack of energy; Very common
loss of appetite and weight loss
muscle aches and headache. Very common

    less common symptoms,

Jaundice check for yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes

Its best to take Paracetamol, or ibuprofen to ease pain, headache and fever.

Consume vitamin C, Zinc tablets to boost my immune system

    Ferrous fumarate 210mg tablets:
Take one tablet twice a day. Age: from 18 years
Side effects.. Regularly cause upset your stomach, causing sickness, heartburn, and possibly diarrhoea or constipation.

Might be best to use an alternative iron salt is another option.
    VITAL

It is often tempting not to drink very much if it is painful to swallow. A lot of people tend to suffer mild dehydration can make headaches and tiredness much worse. Maybe you could get some made with 100% fruit ice poles or ice lollies. Oranges, lemons, grapes any fruit is great for recovery as well as LOTS of water which will clear the virus away gradually

Gargling mouth with salty water and throat lozengers

    Your welcome sweetie,

    The important things are

Check temperature frequently and try not to let her dehydrate .
Paracetamol helps break the fever or ibuprofen to ease pain,
Vitamin C, Zinc tablets to boost my immune system
Iron salt better alternative toThe Ferrous fumarate

    Take care, keep us posted.

Does Emma drink tea, herbal tea?
wonder if this will also be of any help to her?

I know this can take time, and she will probably get her up and down days for some time, but now Emma is treated it will eventually improve, but for now plenty of rest and fluids and her meds, oh and of course her lovely mum, she has all she needs.:A
