Hello to everyone, hope your all well.
Day brighter today, sun shining, a slight breeze, so lots better than yesterday - although I did have to put the heating on when first got out of bed this morning for half an hour.
Whatever your all doing today - hope you have a good one.;)XxXxThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Yes I see what you mean by the damp problem. We had cavity wall insulation a couple of months ago so wonder how that is going to effect the temperature in here.
Have a small wood burner so try and use that in the winter as much as I can I like the warmth but find central heating makes my sinuses bad.:o
Just been speaking to my neighbour next door and never in all the time we have been here have I asked if they have probs (they have been here 20 odd years) and they also have these probs. I think its definately the cavity wall used back then. My friend who lives in a similar bungalow to our (built by the same builders we think) has said the same. Its just so annoying every year. Theirs is more damp in corners (top corners so most probably condensation??) but ours is in the bottom of our bedroom and skirting boards too so rising damp. We were thinking of ripping out our wardrobes the other week but its not cured theirs so I think if we get the rising sorted it may help. Also we are getting the guttering and soffits done for more ventilation and then maybe have one of these lofties. This type of damp is not good for your breathing either. May be easier to just move house. Its a bit like skin really the walls of a house, they still have to breathe.0 -
I have just looked back on all the surveys done on our house and each one mentions that the house has suffered subsidence. We had read it before but it says similar on all valuations
Some of the properties in this area are known to be affected by impure sub floor filing (usually red shale). The property appears clear of symptoms associated with the problem, however, a precautionary specialist test is advised.
The property has suffered previous movement but I saw no evidence to suggest ongoing. (although we have a large crack down one outside wall!!)
Now each one that we have had done says this accept the one from when we actually purchased the property. I wonder how we stand on this if our wall problems are anything to do with this??
Also I have been looking up subsidence and our neighbour over the back has a large willow tree and this can actually cause things like this.
EDIT... Just read from another thread on here that we have no comeback if we only paid for a normal valulation. If it was not obvious at the time (although I would say it was to a surveyor) then we have only ourselves to blame.
But the same people that valued it when we bought it who never mentioned about the floors and walls to us then valued it two years late and did do??0 -
Loft insulation £1 a roll..... wickes sell it at £28 a roll. Limited offer found it on hotdeals and its also posted on here
It runs until the 25th of October, or until five thousand people take up.

If you are thinking of insulating this is a right bargain0 -
I may be wrong here but isn't there also a company - depending on household income, where you can get insulation done as a grant?
Think you must have kids under 16 on tax credits, not sure if other bens come into it as well, but worth checking on.;)
Here is some info here:

The trouble is it was the old polysterene type and this can sometimes cause more probs. We have had this problem for years and I HATE central heating although I do get cold but our problem here is ventilation I think. My friend had the same probs and they are in the same boat so we are thinking of getting one of these loft ventilation units. Have to treat the damp though as that is a major problem as we think its rising damp. They had their wardrobes ripped out that were fitted and we have not gone that far yet but they are still in the same boat even with doing that.

Hi Marshallka
A willow tree needs to be at least three times the heights of the tree away from your property. It is one of the major probs with subsidence. Who does the tree belong to. If you have subsidence you may need to get it sorted. Are you on heavy clay sub soil?.:mad:0 -

I know we need to sort it maxdp but don't think there will be any help as this was in a report of 2003 when we had a valuation done to say that there "had" been movement but it had stopped. I know that this now invalidates insurance against it. Just when we bought it it was valued twice and no mention whatsoever or of the ash in the floors:mad:.
The tree belongs to them at the back of us. When we first moved in i used to moan about the mess on the top patio so they had it cropped a bit. Its grown back though now.
Its been a major problem now for years now but always thought it was condensation and damp.0 -
