I need to say something about the lung function and smoking. I am not picking on anybody cause I smoke as well and keep trying to give up.

When you smoke you take large lungfuls when you take the smoke back and this makes your lung capacity larger because as smokers we all take large intakes. Do you see what I mean? If you do not smoke younever take these huge lungfuls. So when you test on your peak flow as a smoker it is usually more powerful. Does that make sense.

Anyway I know in courses I do that is a subject that comes up. Am sure there is a lung expert or doctor reading this who can elucidate further.

i know what you mean Max I think you are right when I gave up last october I ended up in hospital with pleurisy in all the time I smoked I never got a chest infection or anything. I suppose it was my lungs getting rid of all the crap. I had tried to quit loads of times with patches etc when i did quit i did it on my own my goal was to climb a mountain whaich i did. after all this stress i will try again for the same reason, but go cold turkey it was a lot easier.

Oh well done for climbing that mountain. I know my business partner is an asthmatic and she has been told that although she smokes her peak flow is on a normal level quite high. I think that is why quite a lot of smoker when they give up have lung problems and infections it is because you are not taking in such big gasps of air as you do when you "drag on a fag". Sounds awful I know but it is how it is.
