I still think we'll see sub 5000 again in the near future. Well, that's what I'm hoping as I have another wodge of cash coming to term soon and I'd have to think long and hard about equities right now, and choose my territories with care.

I think it's gone now, maybe next year.

I've been holding GKP for a couple of months, interesting times!

Buying GKP at 90p was a nice opportunity as that was a previous point of weakness (now strength?) way back in the Iraqi elections so it only briefly revisited before doubling now

Pity it had to happen at the same time as everything else, I guess that is how things will be in future also

I own a bit but it was from like a year ago, Ive already sold what I more recently held. Its such a volatile share I would say 200 is a nearterm target it has to beat and if bullish look at buying around 160 for a longer term rise to 300 or so

    Price points
    200
    170
    150
    110
    90

I mostly switched interest to Heritage oil who also own assets in Kurdistan. Its more diversified and with alot of cash and in escrow. However they did awful recently and the apparent good news has not helped them.
Not sure what I have missed except their prospects are not just about Iraq.

Turkey frequently bombs the Kurds, theres no way this is a safe share and of course possible arguments (to put it mildly) with Iraq and various factions within it

Positive for everyone except consumers is that Oil is very strong and I believe its likely to continue a good average rise as it had previous to this year
I still own BP as it rose on ex div and might even do well now

Thanks for the advice. To me it looks like 180p might be of significance too? I'm thinking about setting a limited buying order for 180p with the hope that an elevated opening price will drop back down to this level before rising again. As suggested, I would re-evaluate at around 200p. Sound sensible? No doubt I'll regret it as the hype dies down and the share price drops back down to 140p!

The Vallares float should have a positive effect on share price too... I believe this is expected some time in the coming weeks?

A buying opportunity perhaps? I'll have to have a look in to HOIL this week if I get a bit of spare time.

I would have bought some BP on recent lows if I had spare cash. I'm thinking I'm a bit late now. I also have small holdings in NOP and CEO, which I hope will do next year. CEO is looking good but I'm not impressed with NOP... I'm hoping news from the joint venture with TLW is going to save it!

Oh goody, I do so love the January sales. I hope that National Grid is on special offer!

I guess thats why they rise so much.
HOIL found a ton of gas not so much oil which was the main reason given behind their losing 2/3 of the price.
Probably also why they dont rise so much but these both need to build pipelines and gas can be used with jet turbines to create power, hence why Rolls Royce are doing well in their business also

I sold my GKP at near 200, it went higher but not by much. It could still go to 212 quite easily I think which is less of an obvious top. The points I mentioned are large sections of volume traded, 180 might be a good stop shorter term.
I was tempted to buy back at 180 but I'll leave this one for the extremes it often visits and if its doesnt so be it, went off it a while back.

Im not very good at buying on the lows I guess, closing profit is about 30 to 40%

Oil continues to be strong today despite Dollar rising. Japan reports good GDP growth after its quake, however its stock fell on the day which is typical!

Not good at buying on lows? GKP entry point for the monthly stockchallenge was pretty good. :)

Ah but I already owned it, if I had more money I would have added to it. Money management and cashflow is half the game I think. Not quite sure what is cheapest right now or which sector but oil I think is still good in general

Cluff falling quite alot recently, gold I do think is still in a strong uptrend. So far as I can see its lost nothing from its spike up and down.
I saw a newspaper with 1500 as the gold price and I wondered how it was so low then realised it was an old newspaper though it was from July only!
Very strong asset, no reason to doubt it yet though I dont buy physical
80p as a base for this I think is good, I bought some today though

I kept GKP but sold PFD @7.15 (around 80% profit). Bought some BEM at 18p and some AZN.

Thanks for sharing... I hope it's helping me to learn a bit! I don't know how you guys manage to keep track of such a large number of shares across the sectors. I'm finding it hard enough just attempting to follow a small number in sufficient detail. I'm trying to concentrate on just a few shares but it seems like there's a huge number of potential small cap opportunities.

Yes I'm starting to see how important this is if you want to time your trades just right.

Sounds pretty good to me... I'd be pretty happy with a 30-40% profit! I didn't do too well with my topup. I didn't have computer access during the day so set up a buying order which triggered at 189p. Not very sensible thing to do... guess I paid to much attention to all the spam/hype on the Interactive Investor forums. I'm holding for the moment as I'm interested in a longer term investment. Will consider selling for a lower entry point if there's no real news this week and share price continues to drop.

Good stuff! BEM look like they've suffered quite a hit recently... you expect a decent recovery? AZN I like but am waiting for further eurozone developments before I add to my small holding.
