New Website/business, How shall I advertise it?

Options
Hi, I have created a website and looking to advertise it but I don't know how to go about it, need it to cost as little as possible. Unfortunately I can't post the webadress here as it is not allowed. It is basically a simple business idea providing cheap advertising for websites, which seem ironic as it is exactly what I am looking for right now.

Do you actually have a plan of how to provide this cheap advertising to people who respond to your advert?

ye I do, hopeing that it will become big soon, submitted a press release the other day, I'll see how it goes.Havent got many sites on there though, maybe people just don't like my idea :( I've put the website on my profile for you to see, hope that doesn't count as spamming, Ill remove it if it is spamming because I'm not planning on growing my site by spamming. Hope you like it. Ash

I had the same problem - and without being a downer I had to give up. See merseyjobs.com. This was a local concern targeting workers and employers in Liverpool - buy by-laws prohibited leaflet distribution.
A local guy is staring a web and print based ads site - he has bought a MONSTER truck and has had the comapny logo plastered all over it - so wherebver he drives it you can't help looking abd - hey - free advertsising! Could be expensive tho.

have you looked at the 'websitesthatsuck'' website - they may prove useful

Just went to your homepage via your profile, interesting idea, nice design, though not my particular area.. You need to target a particular market, its all well and good having a website that will randomly take you to anothers page (and I would assume give you a nice little kerching for the intro)... But if the range of companies you have are completely random (like a hotel company, to a pet groomer for example) then web trends are going to show that people didnt stay long on the site you've sent them too, and then the novelty of going to you will wear off, meaning people will go back to just entering the www. of where they are interested in going in the first place... or even easier... google it... just my thoughts.. Good luck with it though!

Yep I defiantly agree with 5kimJim, you need to categorise or be pacific to one area, its taking the same idea as a web ring really so that’s probably why you haven’t had much interest from the press etc..

    Thanks alot for your suggestions.

ye we're thinking of doing something else. Basically we want to make the Blam an interesting experience for all the users so we will ask websites to only put on their most interesting webpage and if we find it is not very interesting we will remove it. Forexample Nike could have a webpage with their most amazing and new trainers, Sony could have their latest "cutting edge" product so that when people click on the Blam they KNOW they are going to get something interesting to look at. Imagine having a Blam button on ur desktop, while you're working, you decide to take a 2 minute break so you just click on the Blam button on your desktop to see something interesting.

I'm not sure whether the press like it but today's rank on alexa.com is 93,512 with one week average of 194,630, we're still thinking of ideas to get people to return to the site and click the blam button more. At the moment we're in contact with a press company and we're waiting for their decision on whether they will sign a contract with us. We're going to contact more PR companies just incase our favourite one decides not to go ahead.

be aware also that more and more companies are installing pop-up blockers as standard on their machines.... this could have an impact on your program... i know its an extreme example but something you should consider...

the concept I think is okay if you pitch it the way you did above... if it were a retail thing then it would be difficult to catch the consumers imagination (my theory of when I hit the Blam button I might end up at a fancy dress shop when i dont need to be there)... but if its going to take you to random information pages then its an interesting idea..

1 suggestion i would make would be to email BBC Radio 2, Steve Wright show... they do 'Website Of The Day' and 'Website Of The Week' my mates website was on there the other week (Basically a site for people to register if they have or are looking for a lift to football games up and down the country) After the radio show and the BBC website exposure his hit-rate went up thousands....
