That is correct. However this thread is about the seller paying etxra to the buyer, actually paying not only the costs of sending the goods but an extra payment over and above for having the item returned.

The buyer just wants the postage refunded. Nothing 'extra'.

The buyer wants original postage and return postage. Return postage is extra.

its also RAM that i have to post back to USA - wonder if its same seller as you?!
i had a similar issue with buying RAM from the USA.

i simply resold it on ebay and actually sold it for more than i paid plus postage.... so was happy

If you bought something from the high street and had to return it, is the petrol/parking/bus fare free for you to take it back?

YES in a word if it was faulty. I'll only take it back if I'm going that way otherwise I'll ring the shop and make them come out to collect the faulty item / refund me my petrol parking etc.

How the hell is that 'extra'?

Sellers send out !!!!!! and buyers have to waste time and money sending the worthless junk back to them.

The buyer should not be out of pocket.

    It's not 'extra' at all.

If you win a paypal claim, as the OP did, the seller is at fault, and the seller should pay all the costs.

More "quality advice" being retched up then.... Moneysaving does not extend to theft, fraud or dishonesty, but with the growing chav culture this country is suffering, it is no surpise that the detrious of society think that it is right and fair to rip off people.

If you don't like the way that ebay works in this respect, then it is probably prudent not to use ebay any longer.

But the point is that the item he was posting was wrongly listed
I do not condone his attitude to theft

But it is different to changing your mind & popping back to the shop
It's usually lazy listing on ebay that causes these problems

I queued and was 20 mins late to work so I could post back an item that was so different as to be chalk & cheese
I have now received my refund I was lucky I guess

I think more people won't be using it
Only today I got an email telling me which catergories I HAD TO offer free p&p if selling
I suspect that will end up with sellers upping the price to allow for it
If you sell an item of clothing for say 1.50 how the hell can you pay a listing fee a final value fee and the postage recorded to protect yourself and make any money !

ebay it appears is now only for those that want to swim through rules in the hope they dont forget any
    It is not user friendly

Had some of these rules been in place when I registered years ago I wouldn't have signed up at all

I personally shall be stopping selling on ebay

well i posted the ram back to USA today, paypal insists it has a tracking number so it cost me £5.50 rather than half that airmail !! and i wont get that money back !!!

also posted back the top i bought. she says she wont refund return postage so i will leave her neutral as she has 100% pos and i dont want to be the one to take that away. she should pay the postage as the item was not as described and is unwearable in my eyes. she should have just refunded my money and let me keep it to avoid all the hassle, i would have taken it to the charity shop as someone may like it.

ebay needs to make clear, especially in clothing categories, what 'as new' 'excellent' 'ver good' ...etc condition means. Ive received a lot of clothing that is described as Excellent condition but turns out to be obviously washed and worn a lot. i usually give people the benefit of the doubt and end up leaving pos as im too busy to care most times.

ebay is getting to expensive, 10% in fees!!!

I think the problem with description of items of clothing is it is all subjective, what one person would call 'excellent condition' another would say was 'well worn', I guess this is the main reaso I never buy clothing from Ebay.

I do agree though that if the seller is at fault then they should have to reimburse return postage fees, paypal have evidence of this as you have to submit proof of return posting so could easily chargeback the seller. I had the same problem with a seller a couple of years ago who sent me completely the wrong item, I had to pay £8 to return the item and only got refunded the original amount I had paid for the item, it put me off buying for a while
