ebay - i want my return postage refunded also!

hi
ive been using ebay for years and mostly i think its great. one thing that really annoys me though is that when an item is faulty or not as described and i have to post that item back to the seller often they will only refund the cost of the item and not a) outward postage b) return postage costs.
I tend to buy a lot of low-cost stuff on ebay ie less than £5 and often the postage costs are higher than the item costs so it would cost me more money to post the item back than i paid for the item in the first place!!! this means theres no point me posting it back and i have to forget the whole thing even though the seller has sent me something rubbish.
ive just won a claim with paypal and i need to post something back to USA where i bought it from!!! obviously that return postage is down the drain and im really hacked off. this is a major flaw with ebay, all the seller has to say is 'post it back' and theyve got the upper hand when they were the ones that ****ed up.
im tempted to say to the seller 'look if i have to post this back and im out of pocket then i'll leave you -ve feedback' in the hope that they say 'ok dont bother posting it' but then i look like a fraudster using the threat of -ve to get what i want and im guessing ebay could tell me off for that? also the seller will assume im some scammer trying to get stuff for free when im not!
is there any way i can get all my costs back? do ebay/paypal have any plans to make this system more fair?
i know i can leave -ve but im still out of pocket.

ps I occasionally sell on ebay and whenever i have an issue (which is v rare) i always refund all the buyers costs. Thats probably why i still have 100% pos after 5 years and 500+ transactions!0

I have had to return two items in the last year and both times the seller did refund my return postage. One item had been listed in the wrong size and the other was damaged. Could you speak to the seller and ask for the return postage? Thats what I did and both times they have agreed as it it is only fair that the seller should carry the cost if it was their mistake.
I hope you get things resolved. It is so frustrating when this happens.0 -
My husband had this only yesterday
We had to send back an item yesterday at a cost of £4.95
The original item was £27 including p&p
The seller failed to send it recorded to us
It was a completely different model number on the RAM that arrived to that advertised
We are honest so opened a dispute & despite the fact that we should get our refund as we have followed the proceedure,I can understand why people think faff it I will claim non receipt
It's wrong of course its theft but
They will get their money & won't be out of pocket like us"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."

You're wrong to think it's ebay/ Paypal that set this idea in place:You must refund the consumer's money as soon as possible and, at the latest, within 30 days of receiving the written notice of cancellation. The consumer may, at your discretion, be charged the direct cost of returning the goods, but you must tell them about this in the written information you give them.

The DSRs above apply to a change of mind, for faulty goods return postage should be returned. However there is no mechanism on ebay or paypal to charge the seller these costs.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. im going to do that from now on as im fed up with being out of pocket.
its also RAM that i have to post back to USA - wonder if its same seller as you?!
do you think i should leave -ve when the item was not as described and return postage has not been refunded? or would neutral be better?
with another item (clothing) I have politely asked the seller to pay return postage but they wont. they have 100% pos and id hate to change that but im fed up with being out of pocket and people need to learn.0 -
I also refund P/P on the one item returned, I also made it as a gift so I incurred Paypal costs instead of the buyer losing out.
Its only fair0 -
QVC is very fond of doing this, they will tell you that you can return goods up to 30 day after delivery for a full refund, but they fail to mention that you will not get the postage refunded nor the return postage.
It can cost you a lot of money just to look at an item!!0 -

can you blame them sometimes though?
there are so many flaw's in the system as both a buyer and seller that it would not surprise me if people started to play the system to get a fair result0
