My mum and I have the same problem with plastic bags. Both of us have a kitchen cupboard dedicated to them. My mum always used to say they breed in there. Now I have a colony of my very own. ;)
Your home is at risk if you do not keep up repayments on a mortgage or other loan secured on it.

Is their capacity about the same as a standard carrier bag?

The capacity is much larger than a standard carrier. I was accused of having got half of Ikea into mine the other night! :D

@ FF, I have never seen a Homebase bag modeled better than that, What a cutie icon7.gif
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

I'm a great fan of canvas bags and have accumulated quite a few now. It doesn't take long to get in the habit of taking them with you for your weekly shop and i find them easier to use then having to struggle to open up supermarket carrier bags as your groceries hurtle towards you down the conveyor belt!

I was amazed how quickly my carrier bag collection under the sink got used up and I actually had to deliberately bring some home from Tescos (not paying for bin liners!)

The canvas bags fold up to next to nothing so you can always have one in your handbag or even coat pocket. If anything leaks or spills in them they wash up perfectly in the washing machine.

Blimmin heck - my package with string bag from incensed just dropped onto my desk (get stuff delivered to work). HOW fast was that?! And she gave me a free little potpourri bag which I'll hang in my wardrobe...

I have put my string bag in my handbag, at the ready! Pretty colour too.

I have loads of plastic bags too. Also use them as bin liners. I do have a load of reusable bags but usually forget to take them with me :o Must get better at that

I'm copying this from the notes I made for my son's "Household Notebook", so apologies if it repeats anything already:-

    • Keep a few in your car and tie around your knees in case you have to change a flat tyre in your good clothes.
    • As packing material when moving, sending packages, or storing Christmas stuff.
    • Use for decorating - Instead of buying an expensive sea sponge, crumple, dip in roller tray, dab excess off on paper and apply randomly to the wall for the dappled/sponged look.
    • Use to cover a paint brush when take a break, or overnight. Ensure the bag is closed tightly to prevent the paint drying out on the brush.
    • Use like a disposable mitten for grubby tasks.
    • As a waterproof saddle protector.

    • The posher/thicker ones: Open out and use to cover books for a wipe clean cover.
    • Useful when cleaning the odd lump in cat litter.
    • As a waterproof lining between sock and boots when working in the garden. If your boot springs a leak, your foot will remain dry ;) .... To be very honest though, years ago I gave that advice to a friend of mine who worked on a farm; he trod on a pile of wood and ended up with a nail through his boot/foot. He was mortified when they cut his boot off and saw the carrier bag sandwiched between the boots and his socks  So, be warned ;):D
