I am...bag lady!

My sis sent me a nylon shopper which folds into it's own pocket a bit like a rain coat. The MATHLETTS call it my Roy Cropper Shopper and die with shame everytime I decline a shop carrier and whip out me trusty tote. LOL
It;s worth having it just to give them grief. If we pass some of their trendy pals in town I swing it in a jaunty manner just to make them cringe even more. PMSL:rotfl:
I remember in the 80's when swags and tails and over the top puffball curtain headers were fashionable that I used to fill out the fancy toppers by stuffing them with scrunched up carriers. My firend who is an enterior designer gave me that tip.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
I also have loads of the things despite using them as rubbish bags, perhaps cos I recycle quite a lot of my rubbish and it's just me and the rats (and sometimes the boyf) so I only end up using one or two a week that way. And I usually forget to carry them round with me which is why I end up with more.
So I've ordered one of those nifty little string bags (thanks for the link) and it is going to live in my handbag, I promise (though sometimes it feels as though this place isn't terribly moneysaving for me considering I've just bought a book too! oh dear...)
Is their capacity about the same as a standard carrier bag?0 -
I've got a couple of those big Sainsburys bags with the cardboard bottom, they're usually used for recycling and shopping in Tesco! I sling things like cereal boxes and toilet rolls straight in the trolly. I also keep a couple of bags for life in my handbag - I hate seeing plastic bags with one item in that could just be put in a handbag.
Years ago I used to let them pack for me at the checkout and the wastage!!!0 -
When I'm on foot shopping in the town I have a rucksack which I keep spare bags in. All split ones are recycled at Sainsburys. For my weekly shop I keep all my long life bags stored within one hanging up in my kitchen so I just grab them along with my shopping list. I usually refuse unneeded bags but if I do build up a supply then I pass them over to our local hospice shop

As well as othr uses mentioned above, I have stuffed a sausage of material with bags and use it as a draught excluder.
I too use unbeached material bags which I got free, the last from a local "save energy" campaign where I also got free energy efficient light bulbs0 -

Scary stats about how many bags we get through in the UK, and what they're doing to wildlife, let alone how many are sent to landfill each year...
Anyway, I've got about eight bags-for-life, I take them everywhere with me, even got my OH doing it now (he used to complain about not being able to take Tesco bags into Asda etc but he's past that now!). Most of my bags are from Tesco, but I've got one FAB one from Sainsbury's it carries HEAPS and it's super strong with comfy handles...
I constantly refuse bags in shops, and any carriers I do get are used as bin bags: saves buying them AND means they get reused.
Co-ops carriers biodegrade pretty quickly. If they can do it, why can't the other supermarkets, that's what I want to know!
I am queen of recycling!! (Even use my empty Pringles tubes as boot stiffeners, but that's another story!) :rotfl:0 -
How about this for a use for those extra carrier bags?

Since I got my chic shopper I don't take bags in shops and even before, I had several BFL. I keep maybe 10 carrier bags just for gathering up rubbish or lining the wastebins etc. I keep BFLs in my chic shopper and use them when out shopping. Keep a BFL in my handbag if I'm out and don't have chic shopper and just have a few light things to get.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

'Scuse my ignorance Smiley_Mum, but what's a chic shopper? Hate to think I'm missing a bag-saving trick!0
