They are worms. My husband and dad used to be fishermen. Cod are bottom feeders, and they are often riddled with worms. We won't eat cod.
  • i cooked the veg at lunchtime and it is in the fridge now, will it still be ok to freeze tomorrow. thanks

Ideally it should be frozen as soon as you can but I have been known to bung stuff in the freezer the next day, if you put it in the fridge straight away and is in an airtight container it should be fine.

It would be a parasitic worm rather than a worm which has been eaten.

I'm not sure. Probably. I know they had to gut them and they were often riddled with worms. I know a lot of fishermen and their families won't eat cod because of it.

All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.

But the fish has been gutted - it is in the flesh.

I have just got back from morrisons with a small piece of cod 'freshly prepared'. i was about to cook it with some veg that i prepared earlier to freeze for my young son when i noticed an inch long clearish/white worm type thing wriggling in it.

Anybody have any advice on whether i should pursue this other than returning the fish for a refund?

No, it's perfectly normal and they are completely harmless. Just remove it and cook the fish.

Morrisons will probably give you a refund out of goodwill, but there is no reason they should have to. There is nothing wrong with the fish you have bought. If the worm was still alive, it's a sign the fish was fresh.
