asos- very strange delivery method- should i complain?

hi all. just wanted some other opinions on this!
i received an asos delivery today, in a manner of speaking... i was out at the time, house empty. so when i get in i find a 'we tried to deliver' note with 'SIDE OF GARAGE' scrawled on it. so i go back outside and look, down the side of my garage and my neighbour's garage. not there. my neighbour is outside and says he thinks they might have put it over the garden fence! the said fence is locked, so i unlock it and there is my parcel! it had obviously been lobbed over the fence!
luckily there was nothing breakable in it, but i still feel like this was a really innappropriate way for it to be delivered! should i complain? i mean, i still got the parcel, undamaged. technically they did deliver it...
ooh yes, and my neighbour was clearly home, as his garage was open and he'd been pottering in there with his car, so couldn't they have just asked him to take it?
just thought i'd check it's not just me who thinks this is complaint-worthy before i send a grumpy email!
xx

When you pay for delivery you expect it to be delivered to a safe, appropriate place. Chicking it over a fence isn't safe or appropriate!
It's not ASOS fault but the courier they employ so make sure you acknowledge this in your email.0 -
i can see why ur annoyed0

Typical of some of these delivery men. It's a wonder they bothered to deliver it at all - they usually just shove a card through your door whether you're in or not as they have strict deadlines to meet and don't want to waste time waiting at the door for you to answerIf you will the end, you must will the means.0

I once had a parcel deliverd in much the same way from a Littlewoods courier, lucky i was in at the time but he choose to just throw if over my front garden gate, where anyone passing by could have picked it up and i would be none the wiser.I also know someone else it happened to and he threw her parcel over her back garden wall, she had no back gate at the time and her back garden lead directly onto a lane, she reported the parcel as never recieved cancelled the order and got a free jacket.0

Actually I would defend the courier here ... most likely they were allowed to leave in a safe place ... & in your garden over fence would be classed as a safe place.
I don't know how high your fence is & whether the courier could have leant over it & dropped / placed on ground?
The issue I would have is that is 1. that it was dropped from height & 2. card was incorrect. I wouldn't worry about where it was left. But remember by the time it has got to you, it will have been knocked around a bit ... either by supplier or carrier ... slightly inevitable.
Having worked for a big logistics company years ok, loading vehicles - I am very reluncant to send anything via these firms ... as I saw what they did with parcels!!

thanks everyone. i think i will send an email to asos saying i'm not happy with their delivery method, that i understand it's the courier's fault but asos need to make sure they resolve the issue as it's them i paid my money too. ooh, just remembered i got free delivery with that order using a code. i was hoping for a delivery refund but guess not!
cheers for all replies

This used to happen to me all the time, not so much now as I've curbed my spending
. I once had a parcel thrown over my back gate, and when I came back off holiday it was still there but soaking wet . I've also had parcels but in the bin
. Luckily it wasn't collection day. I rang the couriers up regarding this and was told that the courier responsible would be warned about it. It's never happened since!
Definitely let the couriers know. Good luck.Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £77,394.48 April 2037Swagbucks ~ £50 (2025 ~ £240)Surveys~ £64.39 (2025 ~ £238.94)Make £2026 in 2026 #18 ~ £286.44 ~ (2025 ~ £2,368.64)2026 Decluttering Campaign ~ 66/20260 -
i sent a polite but dsgruntled message to asos customer care and 'as a gesture of goodwill' they've given me a code for free delivery on my next order. i'm quite satisfied with that!
i would share the code but it's a one-time use one
so problem resolved. thanks everybody! xx0 -
Do you have any young children you can take to hospital, ..following being hit on the head with a parcel while playing in the garden?0

A driver wouldnt just leave it like that if he wasnt allowed as he would loose his job , im sure ASOS will know this happens as they get a cheaper delivery rate if they can deliver first time, was it HDN that delivered ?0
