Complete RANT about Virgin Media

Hi fellow moneysavers,

I just need some time here to rant about the awful Virgin Media customer service. I have spent 15 precious minutes of my day arguing with a Virgin tele-rep, who I think was quite argumentative, not helpful at all and who thought I was daft.
All I wanted was to highlight to Virgin Media that I am not using the telephone service I pay it for and the 2mg BB provision @ £21 simply makes little financial sense - I can get it cheaper elsewhere.
They say: "If you went with Sky or anyone else, your ADSL line would give you barely any connection - you're 3.5k from an exchange. The internet gets very clogged up, more people join everyday. You'd only get online using our F-Optic"
Me: (Gasp! Well, OK I live in Wales, but we do have some technology out here!) "Ok, take me off the phone service and charge me less that way."
Clueless customer SERVICE rep: "No"
Me:"Ok, so there's nothing you can do to save me money?
V: "Erm, I can maybe save you 50p if you get 10mb and keep paying for the phone service."
Me:"Pardon, what?"
Does this make sense to ANYONE?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has let those little Virgin bloodsuckers get under their skin. I'm looking forward to May 15th, my VDay, when it will be disconnecting all services unless a better deal can be struck.
What do you older wiser money savers recommend?

Might be useful if you could mention what packages you use...
Also, if its true that you are 3.5km away from exchange, then you WILL struggle with your ADSL...
  • We too have had a dreadful experience with them. We had no phone service for over 3 months as they couldn't get their act together to fix it. I said that we wouldn't be paying for this service as we hadn't had one. They offered us a 'goodwill' payment which was just the money for the service we hadn't had. I insisted that this wasn't goodwill it was merely not charging us for a service we hadn't had. I ask for a further 3 months at discounted rate and said that this would be a 'goodwill' payment. At first they said they couldn't and after i offered to write to their chief exec to inform them of such shoddy and dreadful service did they agree to the payment. They dont half make you go through the mill though dont they? Keep persisting. They all operate on the basis they hope you'll just give up and go away.
