I had a new siren on my Zafira. The siren contains a rechargeable back up battery and eventually it gives up the ghost. The system thinks that the lack of voltage in the siren battery is a voltage drop and then you end up with the alarm going off. I think I paid £170 for a new siren/battery and 1 hours labour to fit and test it.

You can add the earlier Avensis' to your list now.. :D

I don't bother stocking Toyota's. Find them to be hard work, over priced and dull lol.

They are a bit dull! I like all the older ones........ as in Mk2 MR2 and the Celica GT4, rather partial to Supra's as well.

    I drive a Ford... :D

We had the same problem with our Astra on 2 seperate occasions.

Under the passenger side wheel arch is a plastic panel. Under that is the powersounder alarm system. It has it's own battery backup and will carry on going even if you disconnect the main battery. If the battery in it dies, it will charge itself next time you drive the car, and start going off again.

The only cure for this, is a new powersounder, or there are some guides online, about slicing them open with a craft knife, and replacing the batteries (this common issues seems to be about the batteries, as when the power fluctuates the car thinks it's under attack and goes off)

It cost us about £175 to get sorted last time, as the first one was done under warranty, as they have to map the alarm to the car with the vauxhall tec2 computer.

Have a look for Vauxhall Powersounder on google for more info, but it is a major common fault.
