not insured?

Good Morning,

I called my insurance last thursday to get a quote on changing my vehicle insured. I got the car on friday tried calling the insurance company all weekend got an engaged tone / ringing out..

Had an accident this morning and the other driver has admitted it was his fault. I wasn't sure what to do but now know that i have to go through my insurance company to start the claim and they will claim the costs from his insurance company.

I've spoken to my insurance company (Halifax) and they've said that i am not covered at all and they're refusing to accept the claim even though they wont be paying for it!

I don't know what to do.. I had full comp insurance on my old car which i sold but kept the insurance going knowing i was going to get another car..I thought i was covered Third Part Fire & Theft driving any other vehicle.

Is there anything i can do?

Thanks!

Michael

Hope the police don't find out?

You knowingly drove an uninsured car on the roads.

You can claim off the other drivers insurance yourself, how badly was your car damaged?

I didnt know i was uninsured.. I honeslty thought i was covered. I thought being Full Comp meant i could drive other vehicles at 3rd Party..

Do i just call the other insurance company myself?

    Thanks,

Fully-comp allows you to drive other cars 3rd party as long as they're not owned by yourself

The driving other cars extension only applies to cars not owned by you.
Hubbys policy says (and I quote)....

*The policy holder may also drive, with the owners permission, a motor car not belonging to, or hired or leased to them or their partner*

that's if you have the DOC extension at all. Not everyone does.

For future reference its worth reading documents when you get them

Fully comp insurance usually (not always) means you can drive any car NOT OWNED OR RENTED by you. You owned the new car therefore not covered on your policy!

    EDIT : Beaten to it!

I now realise this. Although technically I don't own the car yet as the vehicle is still registered to the guy i bought it from.

Will call the insurance company anyhow..

    Thanks for the advice :)

Be careful, that is yet another offence, not reporting change of keeper.

The v5 has been sent, but it has been a bank holiday so nothing will have been done yet.

The owner and registered keeper of the vehicle are not the same thing. You are the owner of the vehicle as you bought it! You will have the smaller part of the V5 which you can use to tax the vehicle until you get the full V5 back.
