have you made sure the battery is properly plugged into the laptop? If it is, try removing it and wiping the contacts on both the battery and the laptop with a soft, dry cloth. If none of these work, try phoning Acer support or taking it back to the retailer if you still have the reciept

Return to have it sent away.

The laptop needs a new battery.

The laptop is being powered by the charger, you can prove this by removing the battery. I had a acer travelmate laptop that did this.

    Ok,

You say you have 2 of these laptops.

Take bad battery and put into the other laptop, see if it charges.

Could be the power supply isn't charging the battery. Again, swap them over to see if it works on the other one. That will then tell you if it's the power supply or the battery.
The good news is that if it's running OK on mains without the battery, then it's not a power pin or motherboard failure.

Just swapped leads and that lead charges mine fine but when I put my lead on daughters aspire battery light still flashes. Looks like its a prob with the battery.

Any recommendations, should I conact Asda or Acer? I doubt Asda will have anymore left know, which would leave daughter without her netbook.

You need to speak to Asda, because that's whom your contract is with.
Why will she be without her netbook?-just run it on the mains power for now-or if she needs to travel with it swap the battery over from the other one.

I would have thought Asda will just offer refund so no netbook.

Why wouldn't they just offer to replace the battery? You've clearly demonstrated that it must be the battery, so no diagnosis necessary.
You have no contract with Acer because you bought it from Asda, they're your first port of call, even if they refer you on to Acer.
