Call your local DVLA office and they should be able to tell you who the owner of the plate is. Then get in touch with said dealer who will probably be grateful to get it back.

And then let the ransom demands begin!

Trade plates are handy if you ever go hitch hiking

Depends if it's the front or back. If it's the front one it'll have the traders details on.

Or you could declare your car SORN and cash in the road tax and use the trade plate lol.

They have an unwritten rule that they give each other lifts, thats why they stand by the road with the trade plate showing

I'm sure you are joking, but there are so many reasons why you can't do this. For starters you need front and back. Second the vehicle isn't temporarily in the OPs possession in the course of a trade or business.

The DVLA arnt bothered. They wont tell me who it belongs to. They just said drop it into your local dvla centre (i dont think ive ever seen one!!) or the local police station. Im not wasting my time or petrol its a 30 mile round trip for the police station.

I will recyle it. Thats the best thing.
