Hi
I think my son may have caused BSOD on his laptop.....by his own admission he was 'deleting stuff he didnt need' hmmmmmm result BSOD and fatal error 21a .......kids eh?
now we have the original HP recovery CD but problem is that i cannot get the laptop to boot up , safe mode doesnt work, and I have now made sure the boot up is set to start at CD/DVD then hard drive, but the laptop will not start up from this recovery CD.....any advise please? I am sure if I could get it to start up from the CD the problem can be fixed
Hope you are all having a great Easter!

firstly can you you tell me the full error on the screen. If its a BSOD then it will have some more info for me to use.
Secondly the recovery CD may wipe all his music off, it depends on what sort of disc got made. hopefully we can repair windows. does your kid have any idea what files he has deleted, was he in C:/windows or just cleaning his docs folder...0 -
just a thought - if you use the restore disk, they usually delete all personal data (documents, pictures, music etc) that is on the computer0

Hi thanks for replies
he said he was deleting old files and uninstalling applications he didnt use through windows control panel so god knows what he deleted!
We have the original HP Cd which says Application and Driver Recovery DVD on it, this worked last time we had an error with XP as I think it allowed to fix/repair windows but left all the user files? I may be wrong... and I probably am !
the error message is as follows :
windows xp logo screen comes up with a progress bar then BSOD with
STOP: c000021a fatal system error
the windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x000000000 0x000000000)
the system has been shut down.
many thanks for taking the time to readYNWA JFT96 :A0 -
sounds like he could have got rid of something important. try the DVD but only let it repair or fix something,0

Your best bet here would be to do a Repair Install, as it should reinstall all of the critical files without deleting everything else.
Here's an example of how to do it, but there are lots of other guides if you Google a bit:
