Electoral Roll

I would make sure your name and current address matches the details as they appear on the electoral register. You can inspect the electoral roll at your nearest public library.* Pay particular attention to the way first name(s) as well as surname are recorded. Also an extra line may be inserted/omitted or the order reversed, where new build, a house name or a block of flats is involved. You'd be surprised how often this happens.
When you apply for credit facilities, bank accounts etc. or to the credit reference agencies, ensure your address matches the details as they appear on the register.
*If you opted out of the edited register (which is sold to anyone who wants to buy and which may be viewed in a public library), you can check the full version at your local electoral registration officePeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Hi there, thanks for all replies, a bit of an update and a couple more questions if people have time.
I rang the council today who confirmed that I am on the electoral roll ( I knew I was!) and then rang experian who found the details and are updating it. It was as you say Moggles, to do with the way the address was written.
However, the search by Abbey has now chown up in the credit file, obviously this is before the info has been changed. If they subsequently decline my application, would I be able to ask them to recheck the info? And would this cost another credit search?
Secondly, a bit of a complicated one...
I have noticed that the address showing on the Abbey search is not the same as my actual address. My address as is should be (and that I put into the application form) is "Silaqui Lastname, 1 Block of Flats, This Road"
They have searched for "Silaqui Lastname, 1 this road." (Right again Moggles!!)
If that makes sense. As it's showing up on my file does this mean they will still get the correct information even though the address is wrong?
Sometimes I hate living in flats, everyone does that!

Hi Silaqui
I have had the same problems with Experian with the formatting of the address, I have linked addresses that aren't actually my proper address but they are variations of my address.
This means that if a credit search is undertaken and the company input my address in the wrong format it will still pull up all of my records as variations and different formats are in the linked addresses section.
Hope this makes sense, but I had to contact Experian to ask them to add the different variations to my file to ensure they could be searched in future.0 -
Ring the council up and ask for your Personal Electoral Number and give the cra that, they will find you easier with the number..0

Hi, thanks naijapower and clio, I have done that as I mentioned earlier and Experian are looking into it for me.
Andy, I think that is what is on there with mine there are loads of random linked addresses that are all similar to my actual address which I guess is how Abbey got to the right profile.
Thanks everyone for your input
