Electoral Roll

in Credit cards
Hi there,
I have just applied for a credit card with a 0% balance transfer rate to shift my debt onto.
I haven't made any applications in about 8/9 months, so I used the free trial for Credit Expert to see how things were looking. All green, so far so good - but then I noticed that it said that I am not on the electoral roll???
My current address is on the part of the report linked to the local council, and as far as I'm concerned I've responded promptly to all of the correspondence from the council (they send out like a form to fill in to check who is living in the house to add you to the electoral roll).
I'm really confused as to how I could be showing up as not being on it, and am going to ring the council tomorrow to try and sort things out.
Is anyone able to tell me how much this will affect my credit card application? I'll be so annoyed if I've 'wasted' a search because of some stupid mistake.
Thanks,
Silaqui

When you speak to the council ask for an email letter confirming you've been added to the electoral register - they will do it and then you have a copy to send off with an appeal if you get declined.
Its easily solved. Also let Experian know you should be on it and they can look into for you.

Wow that was quick, thanks very much for the advice. I'll ask them when I ring up, thats handy. I can forward it on to Experian too then.

exactly that's what I have got (added now though) but letter was handy. The CRA's will not add you just because of the letter but they will add Notice of Correction (NOC) text stating that you are on electoral roll and then if you get declined you send a copy of letter off to the lender. Abbey are slow anyway, like 6wks to respond so you may get it sorted before they do your application.....
Good luck - come back if you need more help.2010 - year of the troll

The electoral roll is only formally published once a year. In reality it's added to as and when - but how often the amendments are made public I don't know. If you haven't been long at your address this could explain things0

Its a rolling register (monthly updates to CRA) and it updates officially twice a year now....2010 - year of the troll

Hi all and thanks for replies.
I've lived here nearly 3 years now and I know that I definitely have been on the register for this address before.
Is the rolling register thing new? I can't remember having anything to fill in for it sent through, only the form that they used to send yearly. Should I have added myself to it without waiting for a letter from them perhaps?
Anyhoo I'm sure I will find out when I give them a ring. Thanks for all the responses

One other possiblity is, the different ways your addresses can be written.
E.g., if you're living in a flat, it makes a huge difference between (Flat no.) xx and (House No.) xx.
Could this be one of the reasons?0 -
Hmm guess it could be, I will have to have another look at the actual address given on the credit report thing. Trying to get on it now but the internet is being bloody slow....
I'm sure the two addresses should be the same but you never know I guess!
