Leaving AOL

I have decided to leave AOL after 8 years due to slow evening speeds and connection problems.
I have signed up for o2 broadband and have requested MAC key from AOL,during my phone call with aol the girl stated I was on the maximum speed for my exchange and they will get a "senior engineer" to call me to try to resolve the problems I am having.
I think this is a ploy to try to stop me from leaving has anyone else had a call from an engineer when leaving?

It is probably a ploy to make you stay.Insist you want to shift and you want your code.
Alternatively try and bring the cost down and insist you don't to be in contract and ask them to rectify the connection speeds.0 -
Definitely a ploy!
I had the same experience but I was determined to move to O2 as the speed was ridiculous with AOL. The reason of being away from the exchange was the same one which I got!!!
Can't wait to get connected to O2 ....0 -
If you've already signed up to o2 then there is little point, you're committed anyway. Tell them you want your MAC code , they can get an engineer to look at it if they want. A MAC request does not commit you to leaving them, it's only an option to quit.
If you're signing up with o2 make sure you get the mobile discount if applicable. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Aol called when I was out they left a message stating if I wanted to cancel the cancellation I could do so. I have my MAC and have gone through Quidco and will be connected to o2 from next Wed.0 -
I have been trying to leave AOL because of poor service for over 7 months. They refuse to acknowledge all my communication and continue to take my money each month even though I do not even live at the address concerned or have that phone number anymore. I am trying to buy out of a "free" laptop contract but it seems to be an impossible task. I get different information everytime I call. The responses I get to emails are completely unrelated to the question I have asked and my recorded delivery letter to them has "never been received" even though I have the proof of delivery. Good luck with leaving!
I'm with O2 and I am very very very pleased!! Excellent speeds on wireless and fantastic customer service.0 -
