Lost driving licence.. Green part.

Well after tearing my hair out not being able to find this piggin licence have phoned AutoEurope and THANK GOD hubby only needs to produce the card part.. YAHOOOOOOO..

OK by the hire car company by the sound of it. That's only half the story.

If you are stopped by the Italian police will THEY accept it? Answer - they might - but legally they can demand to see both parts and do whatever it is they do with unlicensed drivers if you can't produce.

To be honest they don't really know the UK requirements and you would probably be OK. I have found the biggest problem to be local cops in the south and if you have say hired in Rome (ie Rome plate) the just love stopping them. Seems to be sport for them.

Ok last hurdle.. Just phoned my uncle who is a Captain in the Italian Traffic Police and he said they never ask for the green part and they can contact DVLA through your card part of your licence.. phewwww

Maybe not but as I've said you still need it to drive in the UK.

Strictly speaking you don't need your your counterpart to drive in the UK.

If you have to produce your licence here you have 7 days. If for some reason you still can't produce it in that time you should be able to contact the relevant Central Ticket and Summons Unit (details usually on reverse of ticket) and explain to them. Chance are they will give you a date to have your licence sent to them. This date will then allow time for you to apply for a replacement licence.

problem solved.. Found the licences in my hand bag that i used for our previous holiday - obvious wasn't it!!! NOT!!!! So lucky that I didn't apply for another one. Was just about to order it on line last week when my daughter was sick.. Ah bless her. It was her way to stop me spending money..

Not true, strictly speaking you must produce it to a police officer on demand. If you can't produce it within 7 days you WILL be summonsed to court for the original offence and one of failing to produce you licence. The driving licence is BOTH parts and not just the photocard.
