hotmail address book copied and emails sent

i recently had a virus which alienrik kindly sorted out for me - all was fine - firefox was slow last night but no major problems.
this morning i got some "out of office" standard replies from companies i work for who i hadnt sent anything to. when i looked it was a spam email sent from my hotmail to them - the list of addresses of people in my address book was also there for who it had been sent to.
ive changed my password on my hotmail, and run malaware with no problems found. What if anything else can i do?

I received spam emails from a friend, the same happened, two emails came, the first with the top half of his address book and the second with the rest as I use two email addresses.

It said -

Change the password on another computer make sure the password is longgggggg,lower and UPPER case, 1234567890 and (*&%$!:@!!}~?><
Then update and run a quick scan with malwarebytes and post a fresh Hijackthis log.

thanks, will go to my parents afterwards and use their pc. It was the same emails my pc sent fortyfoot - damnd annoying isnt it?!! i dont even remember opening anything - but i know the original bug appeared when i had hotmail signed on.

im no techie so some of i what i say might be gobble gook, but just the other day my email sent emails to my whole address book and the email pretty much said exactly the same as the one 'fortyfoot' posted but with a different web address. so far its only happened once, i only notticed because my email was filled with delivery failures (my contacts havent been updated in about 7 years!!! so a hell of alot of them don't work anymore) my brother did a quick scan of my computer for me and uninstalled norton for some reason and installed a different program that his boss advised (they work with computers) hopefully it doesn't happen again, thats the first time thats ever happened with my e-mail.

I would swap to Avira http://www.free-av.com/en/download/index.html instead of AVG. Use the special uninstall tool to uninstall AVG http://www.avg.com/download-tools

Nothing wrong with AVG but in this case both antivirus packages can be running at same time for added security. Simply run one after the other. (Don't do this with Norton!)
Advantage of AVG is that the free version will update automatically.

Not mentioned here very often but a very efficient way to speed up a sluggish PC after checking for malware is CCleaner (ccleaner.com). It is freeware and very good.

Make sure that you don't select option to clear old prefetch data every time as this will slow things down. Also, you may lose some automatic logins if that option is set. (Although not a bad thing to do sometimes!)

Another good free package is Spybot. This will often block spyware from loading by 'immunising' your browser. Only problem is that is does not automatically update.

I was told that if you make the first entry in your address book as email address "0" (in other words invalid) then that can stop it from emailing your whole address book.
