The 'mayonaise' build up inside the oil filler cap, will be caused, more often than not, by using the car for lots of short journeys. As the mechanic has identified, it is condensation build up, which, on longer journeys would have been burnt off.
To remove it, would mean more of a time expense, rather than lots of parts. It would mean taking the cover off the top of the engine & cleaning inside, together with the breather pipes, running from the cover. So probably an hours time & a new gasket (NOT head gasket) around £40ish in an independent garage.
As for antifreeze colours, they do have some variation & Vauxhall/GM are keen to promote, their longlife red coloured product.
Also look for Triguard marked on your packs, for the 'best' choice.
Remember it is a summer coolant, to hlp prevent overheating, as well as winter antifreeze, so you do NEED to have it in the correct mix, all year!

Headgasket - sell it quick.
wrong, is thier oil in the header tank ....... the 1.6 is a carry over from the F cars, these had pourus aluminium heads just because thier is mayo doesnt mean HGF but its a good negotiating point if your buying and the seller doesnt know thier sausages from thier potatoes.
White mayo on the cap only is condestation build up from being used on short runs only a good 100 mile tip will burn it off or get a oil change if its due.
As for the colour yes thier is a differance Blue or green for some cars / years a pinky red for other years / systems its car specific. eg not all Oil is oil and not all fuel is petrol. If it doesnt pay rent sell it.
