    5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

    4 tablespoons flour
    4 tablespoons sugar
    2 tablespoons cocoa
    1 egg
    3 tablespoons milk
    3 tablespoons oil
    3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
a small splash of vanilla extract (optional)
    1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips and vanilla extract (if using) and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high). The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
    Enjoy!

This is a little random but do you think it'd matter too much if you left the cocoa out? That way, Carla would have 2 recipes; one for normal cake and one for chocolate cake.

Hi, this site has some good recipes

    http://www.cooking-corner.co.uk/cc/pages/microwave_recipes.asp

But to make some general recommendations-
Fish is healthy and really easy to cook in the microwave. If you put it in a dish with a squirt of lemon juice, and a small spoonful of oil or bit of butter then cover with clingfilm it will steam in under 4 mins. Check it is cooked through as it will have gone opaque.
You can get some good deals on frozen salmon and tuna steaks (Iceland) that can be cooked this way. If your kids wont eat straightforward fish try disguising it; a fish curry- buy a jar of korma sauce, chop up the fish and cook in a mic on full for 6mins. Similarly Italien fish with a tomato based sauce.

Meat reheats well in the microwave but I think is tough cooked from scratch.

Veg- try ratatouillie. Chop anything really but aubergine, courgettes, onions, mushrooms. Heat first on full for 3 mins with a bit of oil then add tin of tomatoes and heat for another 5 mins (cover both times.

    Not so healthy-
    Sponge pud
2oz flour, 2oz caster sugar, 1 egg, 2 oz marg, mix and microwave on full in bowl covered with cling film for 2 mins. It will rize and feel springy when done. severve with syrup and custard.

Please look at the shop don't drop section, they quite often list discounts on ready meals.

Ignore people being nasty to you at least you are trying

Hi Carla I'm going to move this to the old style moneysaving board. The folks over there might be able to help you with more suggestions :)

if you have a slow cooker at home you are laughing, you can cook anything pretty much in there.. do a bolognaise or a chilli or a curry and serve that with jacket potatoes (yum yum) or rice, you can even cook a whole chicken in there, or chicken stew or a hearty soup with lentils and with all your nice home grown veggies (well done you on having a veggie patch, i'm tring to grow tomatoes this year, but i'm not that good with plants.. we'll see!)
anyway, there is a really good slow cooker thread on the old style moneysaving board.
    hope it all works out
