will be debt free in 2009 and hope to have about 3000 in savings by the end of the year, want to get about 5,000 in savings as an emergency and then will start hammering the mortgage, its on a five year fixed which has just started and can be overpaid 10% a year :)

I have also just bought a new car which I saved 3000 towards, although the diff after part exchange added about 1.5k to my debt Im really chuffed at saving before buying it, I would have waited longer but needed the new car for work :o

Interesting that some folks don't regard a mortgage as debt.

Not too bad, really should try to save more money though! but it is nice to be debt free (2 years ago had a mortage, secured loan, personal loans and credit card debt) now live in rented flat and have a nice disposible income each month, spend way too much money going out, eating out, clothes, holidays and having fun! Really really need to start saving more!
